Local Search & Rescue Teams Participate in Winter Survival Training

Lake Alpine, CA...From the Calaveras County Sheriff's Office...Members of our Calaveras County Search and Rescue Team participated in annual winter survival training around Lake Alpine this weekend. Our hardworking Deputies and Volunteers average around 120 hours of an extensive training regimen each year. They respond to a variety of search and rescue calls for lost or injured persons in off-road and wilderness areas of Calaveras County and provide mutual aid as needed to other areas in our region.

Fire & Brimstone Scam Calls Making The Rounds

Sonora, CA...From the Tuolumne Sheriff's Office...Our Communication Center has received multiple calls regarding yet another phone scam that seems to be targeting the elderly in our community. Many residents have been receiving calls this evening from (661)552-0555. A male voice says, “You will go to hell if you don’t belong to my church.” Some residents have called the number back and the person on the line demands a $100 donation to their church so they may follow Christ the right way and keep from going to hell.

Gumpferpabilona Arrested After Seeking An "Alternative" Entrance to Sonora Business

Sonora, CA...On 03-08-18, at approximately 0233 hours, the Sonora Police Department received a call that a male subject was breaking the glass window at 101 S. Washington Street. When our officer arrived on scene, he discovered that 34-year-old Alfred Gumpferpabilona, a Sonora resident, had entered the locked building through a display window and was in the process of breaking into the main part of the building through a secondary door. Our officer ordered Gumpferpabilona from the building at Taser point and held him there until additional law enforcement units arrived to assist.

Assault & Robbery by Unknown Pair in Sonora

Sonora, CA...On 03-07-18, at around 9:30 P.M., Sonora Police Officers were dispatched to the area of 250 Greenley Road for a male subject who was being chased by unknown subjects. Officers arrived on scene and contacted the victim. The victim told officers he was sitting near a cement wall on the east side of Greenley Road at the intersection of Cabezut and Greenley when two male subjects approached him from behind yelling at him. The victim ran across Greenley Road onto Morningstar Drive and the suspects gave chase. One of the suspects was described as driving a red colored Ford Exhibition who kept cutting the victim off while the other chased him on foot.

Domestic Violence Arrest in Sonora

Sonora, CA....On 03-06-18, around 11:00 p.m., Sonora Police Department officers responded to the area of Bulwer Street and South Washington Street for a report of a domestic violence incident. Through their investigation, officers discovered that Devon Leigh Martin, age 25 of Sonora, grabbed his ex-girlfriend by the arms during an argument on 03-04-18, causing minor injury to her shoulder. It was also learned that Martin and his ex-girlfriend were involved in another physical disturbance in front of Winters Tavern on 03-05-18. Immediately following this incident, Martin scratched the side of his ex-girlfriend's vehicle with a knife, causing damage estimated to be in excess of $1,000.
