New Melones, CA...Sierra Bank Fishing: Right now the trout fishing at New Melones is at the end of a late summer lull. We are waiting patiently for a change in weather and some much needed rainfall. While we wait, now would be a great time to explore some nearby fishing holes that are producing some nice quality rainbows. We have had a handful of reports that the lakes up hwy 88, hwy 4 and hwy 108 are fishing pretty good. ...

New Melones Lake is Prepared for Independence Day Weekend

Posted by: Lea_Marie_C_Paar on 07/03/2014 04:47 PM
Angels Camp, Ca...If there are two or more of you in the boat, drop the boat in the water on the main ramp, have one person drive around and park on the middle ramp, and have another person idle around to the bank near this lot to pick up the driver. Same can be done in reverse after a day of boating. Drop the driver off a this lot and meet them at the dock. Keep your sense of humor- it is great entertainment to watch a ramp during the busy times- have a cold beverage in hand, turn on some good music, and rate the trailer driving- you will be on the water soon enough!

Angels Camp, Ca...The summer heat has set in, and the lake is down a bit. The bite has become a bit tough but we are still catching plenty of fish, and some pretty nice ones. The best bite time is in the early morning or late in the evening. I would suggest being on the water before 5:00 am if you plan on throwing topwater baits. Once the sun comes up it is best to switch to slow moving soft plastic baits. It is a good idea to rig your baits weedless because there is a lot of wood to get an exposed hook snagged on. The late afternoon and evening we have been doing well. 16-year old Tristan Brown and his 13-year old younger brother Jamie joined me for a half day evening trip. They started catching fish right off the bat. Between the two they landed 14-18 fish with a handful weighing 2 to 3-pounds. We had a blast and these guys got to Xperience some New Melones bass catchin' action...
