Arnold, CA...The Calaveras County Chamber of Commerce will be also having their April Monthly Mixer on Thursday, April 17th in Arnold. This month's mixer is being co-hosted by Above and Beyond Travel and the Calaveras Humane Society at the Human Society's Thrift Store in Arnold. Located at 2182 HWY 4. Hours of the mixer are 5:30-7 p.m....

Verizon To Purchase Local Service Provider Golden State Cellular |

Sonora, CA....Verizon Wireless is making a move to purchase Golden State Cellular. We have been following this story for the last several weeks but since the deal is subject to FCC approval we did not want to publish anything too soon and have it reflect negatively on one of our local employer's if the deal fell apart. The application has been on the FCC site for several weeks but fairly hard to find unless you knew what to dig for. Last night however Verizon Management was here locally and hosted a dinner. So if they are confident enough to talk with employees about the deal closing in the next few months then it looks like this sale will go through....

Study: Investing On Forests Reduces Megafires And Saves Millions |

San Francisco, CA...A new study released today finds investing in proactive forest management activities can save up to three times the cost of future fires, reduce high-severity fire by up to 75 percent, and bring added benefits for people, water, and wildlife. “Recent megafires in California and the West have destroyed lives and property, degraded water quality, damaged wildlife habitat, and cost taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars,” said David Edelson, Sierra Nevada Project Director with The Nature Conservancy. “This study shows that, by investing now in Sierra forests, we can reduce risks, safeguard water quality, and recoup up to three times our initial investment while increasing the health and resilience of our forests.” ... |

Supervisors Approve Conditional Use Permit for Little Tree Collective |

Arnold, CA...The Little Tree Wellness Collective will be permitted to stay open in it's current Hwy 4 location in Arnold for at least the next year. The Board of Supervisors approved the Administrative Use Permit that will allow the Medical Cannabis Dispensary to legally operate. The zoning of the entire commercial building is being changed to accommodate Little Tree. The rest of the tenants will be allowed to remain as approved non-conforming uses in the new zoning. In partnership with the Stanislaus National Forest Bear Valley Mountain is conducting a Instructor Hiring Clinic on Saturday, April 12 8:30am-Noon in the Snow Sports Meeting Area in front of the Sun Room. Strong skiers and snowboarders with an interest in sharing the thrill of skiing and snowboarding with others are encouraged to attend. Calaveras Community Foundation Receives $3,500 from the Black Oak Casino Resort |

Calaveras County, CA ... The Calaveras Community Foundation (CCF) received a donation of $3,500 from the Black Oak Casino Resort. This 2013 contribution began a mutually satisfying partnership between Black Oak Casino Resort and the Foundation. Those initial funds benefited several Calaveras County community groups and organizations. Sober Grad Night Foundation was the recipient of a $1,000 donation. This event involved both Bret Harte and Calaveras High School students. Calaveras 4 Teen Center received a check for $250. Calaveras Mentoring Foundation was a beneficiary of $250. Alternative Education Programs received $250. Calaveras County Office of Education’s “Partner in Education” program was aided by Black Oak’s generous donation of $500. The Resource Connection’s “Santa’s Express” was sent a $250 check....
