"Wings and Things" Exhibit Continues Through May 31st in San Andreas

San Andreas, CA....Expect to be “carried away” when you go to the next exhibit in the Gallery Calaveras, the new name of the gallery of the Calaveras Arts Council, still located on historic Main Street in San Andreas. The title of the new show which opens April 26 is “Wings and Things.” Over local ten artists who are a part of the Gallery Group will have works in the show that represent their interpretations of the theme of flight. Subjects range from birds to bugs...

Calaveras County, CA....It’s time to start thinking about the next graduating senior class and their fun and exciting Sober Grad Night Party. Sober Grad Night began at Bret Harte in 1989. Those parents took the idea from Napa High School. Calaveras High joined in the fun in 1992. The purpose of Sober Grad Night is to keep our teenagers in a safe and chemical free environment, while giving them a fun graduation party at the same time. There have been no deaths or seniors....

San Andreas, CA...In a great move the county is offering the public complete access to the Calaveras County Board of Supervisor "Board Packets!" Each week all of the documentation needed for the Supervisors to do their jobs is provided to them in their Packets. Each week members of the press have also been allowed to have access to these "Board Packets" as well. Now for the first time the general public can have access to the same documentation as the Board Members...

San Andreas, CA....Our BOS will be meeting on Tuesday April 1st at 9am. Some of the agenda items being discussed will be RESOLUTION amending the 2007/2008 budget for the Department of Agriculture along with a BUDGET TRANSFER in conjunction therewith (requires 4/5 vote); Environmental Management Agency/Department of Agriculture - Board action: RESOLUTION to appoint Bruce R. Child, Jr. as Calaveras County Surveyor retroactive to September 27, 2004; Public Works - Board Action: RESOLUTION authorizing Board Chair to sign Standard Agreement 07-0705 between the County and CDFA/Skeletonweed and approving a BUDGET TRANSFER (requires 4/5 vote) adjusting the fiscal year 2007/2008 budget for the Department of Agriculture; Environmental Management Agency/Department of Agriculture - Board action: MINUTE ORDER to approve 1) a contract with VESTRA to amend existing scope of services by $7,824 and extend the contract date until June, 2008 for technical development and editing of GIS layers in conjunction with the UPLAN project; 2) a new contract with VESTRA to provide GIS data development in conjunction with UPLAN modeling for the general plan update, in the amount of $15,600; and 3) a BUDGET TRANSFER, in the amount of $23,424 (requires 4/5 vote) to increase revenues and expenditures for the project; Community Development Agency......

In England, New Zealand, Australia, and many other parts of the world hedgerows are widely planted. They provide beauty and wildness while providing wildlife habitat and wind protection on rural lands and farms. Hedgerows are long rows of mixed woody shrubs and trees that once commonly framed the rural landscape. Farmers often planted these as "shelterbelts" or "windbreaks" and birds added their own contributions to hedgerows by depositing shrub, tree and bramble seeds in their droppings. In the past few decades, many of these hedgerows have disappeared from the American countryside......

San Andreas Area is currently investigating a Motorcycle collision that occurred at an unknown time but after 5 PM on Saturday March 22, 2008 eastbound Murphys Grade Road, approximately 2.2 miles east of Lower French Gulch Road. Earl E Wiggins, a 61 year old male from Hathaway Pines, was last seen at his work in Angels Camp at 5 PM on Saturday. He was riding a black 1997 Harley Davidson “Ultra Classic” with a helmet......

Mark Twain St. Joseph's Hospital Hosts "Career Day!" ~By John Hamilton Updated with Video

Valley Springs, CA...Mark Twain St. Josephs Hospital and many other organizations rolled out the red carpet for the young aspiring Eighth Graders looking ahead to their futures. Friday Morning almost 300 kids streamed through the multi-purpose room at Toyon Middle School. There were booths and information on many different types of jobs to accommodate any skill set. Medical Careers, Management, Law Enforcement even Veterinary were represented. It was even exciting outside when a CHP Helicopter Crew landed one of their helicopters on the ball field and were giving batches of the students tours. A CHP cruiser and even the Calaveras County Sheriff Department's Hummer was in attendance and had the kids fired up to go do a search and rescue mission....
