| Samuel James Wiens, 79, of Murphys, died peacefully on November 1, 2010, following complications of cardiac arrest. He was born to the late Jacob and Mary Wiens, on May 6, 1931, in Dallas, Oregon. Sam was a teacher in San Jose until his retirement in 1990. At that time Sam and his wife, Ruby, moved to Murphys where he has enjoyed being involved in many activities including serving at the Chapel in the Pines; participating in SIRS, Do Wooders, and Links Fellowship. .... |

Avery, CA...One of the prettiest, yet one of the most challenging race events on the Ebbetts Pass corridor this year was held at Avery Middle School this morning. This was the 2nd annual RUN 4 MUSIC and just like last year, the Vallecito Music Boosters and the Vallecito Union School District teamed up to bolster funds for the district's 5th-8th grade music program at schools on the Ebbetts Pass Corridor...

Murphys, CA..Businesses in Murphys will have new access to cutting edge energy efficient technology through a new collaboration between Sierra Business Council and Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E). From 2010 to 2012, Sierra Business Council, a non-profit organization with a new office in Sonora, CA will be offering free energy audits and low-cost retrofits to commercial PG&E customers in the Sierra Nevada through a new program called the Sierra Nevada Energy Watch....

| Murphys, CA...Crews are responding to a vehicle fire on Utica Powerhouse road in the Murphys area. More to follow if needed Update as of 5:20am..First Units on scene are updating that the fire is actually on Hwy 4. Vehicle is fully involved in the middle of the roadway. All victims are out of the vehicle. With the location of the fire Hwy 4 will be effectively closed until they get this incident cleared...Update as of 5:35am..The fire is out and a tow vehicle had been ordered. Roadway should be cleared in a few minutes..Update as of 5:44am...It will be until just after 6am until the tow vehicle can get on scene... |
