Lifeguard Certifcation Course
Starts Jan. 30, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. (one-hour lunch break), Calaveras High School, 350 High School St., 40 hour course taught in five eight-hour sessions on subsequent Saturdays (Feb. 6, 13, 20,27 and March 6), students must complete all sessions to receive Red Cross certification; $200 per person must be received by Jan. 25, call Leanne Sparvel at 754-5036 or e-mail to leannesparvel@yahoo.com.

Mary Youngblood Native American Flutist
Two-time Grammy winner Youngblood will perform at the Bret Harte Theatre in Angels Camp along with guitar, percussion and harp. $25 tickets will be available starting at 2:30 pm Sat.in the Box office of the theatre.

Murphys Hotel Showdown
This is the 1st annual snowboard contest. We will be bringing lots of snow into our parking lot. Building jumps and rails for the kids to compete on. Please come on out and watch this one!

Calaveras County Junior Livestock Boosters Annual Dinner/Dance
The Calaveras County Junior Livestock Boosters will hold the annual dinner dance Saturday, February 6th, at the Calaveras County Fairgrounds in Angels Camp. The event will be held in Mark Twain Hall.
No-host cocktails will be served beginning at 6 p.m. A beef-in-the-barrel dinner will be served from 7 to 8 p.m. and dancing to the live country music of “Paul Justin & Saloonatixx” will begin at 9 p.m.
The door prize is a trip to Carson Valley Inn Getaway. The grand prize winner of a drawing will receive a $1,200 travel voucher. Other drawing prizes include a shotgun and $500 Middleton’s gift certificate. Donations for drawing prizes are gladly accepted.
Tickets will not be sold at the door and pre-sale tickets sell for $15 per person. Tickets are available at Turner’s Wild West, Spence Ranch Feed, Bear Mountain Guns, Calaveras Telephone, Country Feed & More, 4-H/Farm Adviser’s office, any Junior Livestock Boosters member or by contacting Shana Shawkey at 985-4309 or Cathy and Ron Anderson at 736-2175.
Proceeds benefit participants in the Junior Livestock Auction during the Calaveras County Fair and scholarships for graduating seniors from Calaveras County high schools.

Come join us for a night of good food and fun for the whole family. This year our annual scholarship fundraiser will be held the night before the Super Bowl. Dinner will include soup, chili, stew, salad, and dessert. We will also have a silent auction, games for the children, and an “auction” of the students who are graduating from high school this year. There will be a family cheering contest and we will show film clips of Calaveras High football games and football bloopers in our gym.

"Guys and Dolls" at Sierra Reperatory Theatre
Musical comedy celebrates high rollers and true love
WHAT: Guys and Dolls, an all American musical comedy classic filled with bright lights, big bets and loveable wise guys opens on Saturday, February 6 at the East Sonora Stage.
WHEN: The 2010 Season opens Saturday, February 6 with the season opening Gala. Performances are Thurs & Fri at 7 p.m.; Sat 8 p.m.; Wednesday, Sat & Sun matinees at 2 p.m. Shows are Thursday and Friday at 7pm, Saturday at 8pm, Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday at 2pm. Talk back is Thursday, February 18, immediately following the performance.
