Raft the Mokelumne River with O.A.R.S.
to Benefit the Calaveras Youth Mentoring Program
Sunday, June 6, 2010

(Angels Camp, CA) – A relaxing and memorable rafting experience awaits contributors to the Calaveras Youth Mentoring Program on the 2010 Mokelumne River Rafting Adventure, Sunday, June 6, 2010. Local rafting company O.A.R.S. secures a Special-Use Permit to raft a gorgeous, mostly gentle, six-mile stretch of the Mokelumne River as a thank-you gift to community members who donate $70 per person to the Calaveras Youth Mentoring Program. Trips depart from Mokelumne Hill at 8am, noon, and 4pm, and the noon trip is already full! Seating is limited and available by advance reservation only. For more information and reservations, the public may call the Calaveras Youth Mentoring Program at (209) 736-6078.

The trip is appropriate for ages 7 and up and swimming ability is not required. Located near Jackson, this stretch of river is considered Class II-III and features several long, peaceful pools with a bit of excitement – two class III rapids, the Chute and the S-Turn – near the end.

O.A.R.S. sets itself apart from other adventure companies by providing the most knowledgeable, passionate, entertaining guides in the business; top-of-the-line, rigorously maintained equipment; and the largest number and most geographically diverse rafting trips in the West.

The Calaveras Youth Mentoring Program connects Calaveras County young people in 1st through 12th grades with safe, positive adult role models who offer support, guidance and friendship and help the youth make healthy life decisions. Administered by the Calaveras County Office of Education, the program matches students with adult volunteers who share their interests and with whom they meet weekly for at least a year.

The program is actively recruiting mentors for local youth. For more information about the Calaveras Youth Mentoring Program, please call (209) 736-6078 or visit our website at www.calaverasmentoring.org.
