FRIDAY, AUGUST 6 – 7 p.m. – Pianist Di Wu with the Bear Valley Festival Orchestra. A great hit with audiences last year, the talented young pianist Di Wu is returning to the Bear Valley Music Festival. With the Festival Orchestra she will be performing Frank Martin’s Concerto for 7 Winds and Orchestra, Felix Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 5, Op. 107 in D major/D minor, and Ludwig van Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 5 in E Flat major. Born in China, Di Wu made her professional debut at age 14 with the Beijing Philharmonic. Moving to the United States in 1999 she has performed with various US orchestras, including the Pittsburgh Symphony, National Symphony (at the Kennedy Center), New Jersey Symphony, and twice with the New York Pops at Carnegie Hall. Last year she was a finalist for the prestigious Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. Tickets range from $25 to $50 and may be purchased by visiting the festival website, www.bearvalleymusic.org or calling toll free (800) 458-1618. Bear Valley is located off California State Highway 4 on the Ebbetts Pass Corridor just beyond the Calaveras County border.
