The Rail Road Flat Community Club is hosting a monthly pancake breakfast the 2nd Saturday of every month. The cost is only $5 per person. Includes; pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon, juice, coffee and tea. This month includes corned beef hash. For questions contact: 754-4882. The proceeds go to the upkeep of the RRF Community Hall. Oct. 9 and 10, 9 a.m. both days, Bear Valley Mountain Resort, Highway 207 (off Highway 4), Bear Valley, one of the “toughest events on the planet” features a 7-mile obstacle course designed by British Special Forces officials that tests “all-round toughness, strength, stamina, fitness, camaraderie and mental grit”; $160 for individuals before Sept. 25, $180 afterward (less for groups with multiple entrants) at bearvalley.com (click “Tough Mudder”); $15 for spectators, children under 10 free; proceeds support the Wounded Warrior Project, which assists wounded servicemen and women.

The Columbia Chamber of Commerce presents the 26th Annual Harvest Festifall, Saturday and Sunday, October 9 & 10, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Join us for a cornucopia of country crafts, comestibles, demonstrations of skills, and music and dancing on the shady streets of Columbia State Historic Park, decorated for the harvest season. Wear your Gold Rush duds and enjoy a visit to the past. Fun for everyone, and it’s free!!!

Almost fifty vendors, dressed in 1850s attire, will display their handmade arts and crafts for sale, including pottery, jewelry, apparel, home décor, wood furniture, baked goods and many others; and some will demonstrate their skills. Attractions include demonstrations of spinning and weaving by the Mother Lode Weavers & Spinners, face painting, miniature horses, and entertainment by various local groups of musicians and dancers.

Oct. 9, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Milfiori, next to the schoolhouse on Main Street, Douglas Flat, artists Janette Jones, Kathleen Dunphy, Charles Waldman and Shona Macomber create art works throughout the day that celebrates the historic property and raises money to support and restore the schoolhouse, which also serves as the community hall; free to attend, lunch is $15 and donations are accepted to tour the farmhouse, ayearatmilfiori.com.

Our 4th Annual Golf Tournament will be held on October 9, 2010 at Forest Meadows & Resort at 1 PM with a Shotgun Start. This year we are renewing our commitment to provide assistance to local organizations and youth groups such as Ebbetts Pass Little League, Bret Harte Swim Team, Feeney Park, and Murphys Firefighters Association, to name a few. There is a hole in one contest, long drive and closest to the hole prizes. Raffle will be held during dinner. Entry $75/person - 2 person scramble format - includes green fees, cart and tri-tip or chicken dinner. Additional dinner $15/person.
