10:00 AM "Mushrooms of New Melones Lake" Guided Hike
Join us for Reclamation’s interpretive hikes this spring at New Melones Lake. All activities are free of charge, suitable for all ages, and do not require reservations. Please wear sturdy shoes and clothing appropriate for the weather. A water bottle and sunscreen are also recommended. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Join Ranger Hilary in discovering some of the fungi around us. Learn about their importance, identification, habitats, life cycles and dangers. Search for fungi along this easy 2 mile trail that leads to the base of Table Mountain. Participants will have the option of returning on their own or participating in a climb to the top to enjoy the grand view of New Melones Lake. We will meet at the corner of Rawhide Road and Shell Road at 10 am.
10:00 AM 38th Annual Bjornloppet XC Ski Race and Festival - Bear Valley
Bear Valley CA....Bear Valley Cross Country will host the 38th Annual Bjornloppet XC Ski Race and Festival on March 12th and March 13th, 2011. This is one of the longest running ski races in the west and it is open to all ages. In addition, the California Senior Winter Games will be held the same weekend in Bear Valley. Registered Senior Winter Games athletes can participate in the Bjornloppet races and use their race time results for both the Bjornloppet and for the California Senior Winter Games gold, silver and bronze medals....

On Saturday, March 12th, the Freestyle (skate ski or stride) race begins at 10:30 a.m. and racers have a choice of participating in the 20K race or 10K Open Division race. On Sunday, March 13th, the race begins at 10:00 a.m. (don't forget Daylight Savings Time begins—spring forward!) and racers can compete in the 10K or 5K Classic (stride only) or Snowshoe race. Saturday's race fees include the race, a t-shirt, the Bjornloppet awards party and lunch; Sunday's race fees include the race and Bjornloppet awards party with snacks. Call Bear Valley Cross Country to receive an official Bjornloppet race registration form.

On Friday, March 11th, Bear Valley Mountain and California Senior Winter Games will host a Friday Sprint Race Event at 5:00 p.m. Open to all ages, this fun and adventurous 1.5 kilometer cross country skate and snowshoe sprint race will be a great kick-off to the California Senior Winter Games! Heats for seniors, all-comers and snowshoers will complete two laps on a .75 kilometer course with ups and downs for an exciting event just prior to the opening ceremonies.
