COOPERATIVE PARENTING FOR DIVORCED PARENTS OFFERED
SAN ANDREAS – Family Court Services is pleased to announce that our next Cooperative Parenting Class for divorced or separated parents will begin on Thursday, September 30, 2010. The goal of the program is to teach parents how to shield their children from parental conflict and establish a positive, long-term relationship as “co-parents.” The program is an eight-week class (from September 30 through November 18) which combines video, activities and group discussion to help parents learn techniques to communicate with each other about the welfare of the child. The class meets once a week on Thursdays from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Senior Center located at 956 Mountain Ranch Road in San Andreas. The class is free; the only charge is $20.00 for the workbook, due at the first meeting. No childcare is available.
Phyllis Garman will teach the class. Interested parents should pre-register by calling Mimi Bell, Family Court Services Director, at 754-9890. This is a valuable opportunity for parents to learn how continued conflict affects their child’s development. Parents will learn how to minimize the stress at transitions and make custody exchanges a positive experience for their child. As one of our program participants from last year stated: “This class really opened my eyes and helped me to look at the situation from my child’s point of view.”
