02:00 PM 2nd Annual Calaveras Film Festival!
2-5pm BBQ and Music at Zucca Mountain Vineyards Tasting Room
7-11pm Film Festival at Newsome Harlow Tasting Room

The Calaveras International Film Festival is proud to return to Murphys for another year of great films from around the world, great wine and just a good time.
After last year’s success the word got out and this year the CIFF was happy to see over 35 countries represented in the submissions to the festival.

Film submissions are accepted year round, for any kind of film genre, from various channels : individual filmmakers, agents, independent producers, festivals, etc….
Film festival Director Joshua Steck, a resident of Calaveras County and independent filmmaker himself, also searches for upcoming new filmmakers emerging onto the independent film scene.

Joshua believes it is important to search out the quality films that get missed or looked over to encourage the filmmakers to continue to fine-tune their craft. He also pays close attention to other film festivals such as the LA Film Festival and seeks out new filmmakers to feature in the festival.

Joshua has been very pleased with this year’s lineup of films and the 2010 festival theme: Short films, fun and upbeat!

While most of the films have already received national accolades and recognition, some will have their debut screening right here in beautiful Murphys! Watch out Sundance! Murphys is on the map!

All films are screened for several qualities:
-Overall production quality, production value, editing, acting, direction, lighting, storytelling and overall “watchability” among others aspects of the production process.

Over 200 films were screened before making the final selections for the 2010 CIFF.

Some are quirky and some are bizarre, some are "roll-on-the-ground" funny, some are sweet and some are salty. You will want to come and enjoy this with a good glass of vino.

So start the day off at the Zucca Mountain Vineyards tasting room for a great summer BBQ, with all the fixin’s, some yummy wine and enjoy music by Alma Melodiosa from 2-5pm.

Take a break, go walk around, grab some dinner and enjoy the scenery of historic Murphys.

Then make your way to Newsome Harlow’s tasting room from 7-8 for wine tasting and mingling and the festival of films from 8-11.

You will want to get there a little early and score your seats and stick around after the films for a fun raffle.

The film festival would like to thank it’s sponsors, volunteers and supporters without whom this would not be possible: Carol and Gary Zucca of Zucca Mountain Vineyards, Scott and Melanie Klann of Newsome Harlow, Karen Henderson of Lila and Sage, River Klass of Grounds and Firewood Restaurants, Graham Green and the Murphys Creek Theatre, Kirsten and Nathan Vader of Vina Moda, Brooke Langlois of Moon Alley Candles, Kate and Craig MacDonald of Boyle MacDonald Wines, all the volunteers and the community of Murphys.

08:00 PM "A Midsummer Night's Dream"
Murphys, CA...Beneath the stars at the beautiful Albeno Munari Vineyard Amphitheatre, Murphys Creek Theatre is proud to present A Midsummer Night’s Dream. One of Shakespeare’s most beloved comedies, audiences will be delighted with this year’s Theatre Under the Stars Opener. Director Misty Day leads a cast of incredible characters including Brooke Lawrence as Puck, Kate Gonzales as Hermia, Allie Blackwell as Titania, Robert Zellers as Lysander, Sean Lewis as Oberon, and straight from Paris, John Gallagher returns to the MCT stage as Nick Bottom along with many other wonderful actors drawn from right here in the community.....

Young lovers wander into the forest where Oberon, king of the fairies attempts to help things along with the assistance of his messenger Puck. However, complications ensue as the young lovers profess their love to the wrong recipient and a group of laborers from nearby is caught up in the confusion when one of their number is turned into a donkey with whom the fairy queen, Titania, promptly falls in love. In the end all is set aright and the audience is invited to a triple wedding.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream opens June 25th and runs Friday and Saturday nights through July 17th at the Albeno Munari Vineyard and Winery (formerly Stevenot) outdoor Amphitheatre in Murphys. For tickets please call (209) 728-8422 or visit www.MurphysCreekTheatre.org to purchase tickets online. Murphys Creek looks forward to having you join them to celebrate their 16th year, and thank you for supporting quality theatre in the Motherlode!
