“My Name Is. . .” : a subject of healing.
My name is Alex Kunesh. Beside me stands a cast of twenty three dedicated dancers many of whom have little or no experience in dance. What they have accomplished over the past three months is just short of amazing. As the Artistic Director, with guidance from multiple talented mentors, I created a modern dance piece that summarizes the highs and lows and ups and downs of our high school experience ranging from our infamous school rivalry to a first love. Dances will also represent high school risk taking, school social groups, and life changing events . The audience, reading the program, will be left to interpret the dances. The student dancers varying from thirteen to eighteen years of age have learned the technique and gained the experience to mold their body into a piece of art which can now portray any story. In combination with those who have just begun their training, our company also holds multiple very talented dancers most of which have previously danced with local dance companies. Their passion is an overwhelming beauty; as high school students they have overcome many obstacles, yet they would never let any obstacle interfere with their dream; the dream of dance and how it heals. Listen to the movements of these dancers as they pour their heart onto this stage.
Tickets are available on sale at Bret Harte High School or through Satori School for the Arts, Sustenance Books, Family 4 Fitness, and at the door. For more information contact Alex Kunesh at 770-5147. 5$ for students, $8 for adults, donations accepted. All proceeds benefit Bret Harte High School Dance Club “Expression” to hopefully assist in future small productions or to bring dance teachers from out of the area to teach master classes. Without these events our high school would not be able to provide this opportunity.
