Toyon Middle School again will host the 3rd Annual Walk-Run for on March Cancer Awareness Fund Raising Event on Saturday March 5th, 2011, which raises money for the American Cancer Society to put an end to cancer. As our slogan says, “Let’s run cancer outta our lives!” Last year there were over 300 participants walking and running the scenic 2-mile and 5-mile courses. There is also a Youth Dash and Tot Trot, held in the parking lot. The event takes place at the Terrace Plaza, on Hwy. 26 at Vista del Lago. Entry fees are $5 - $15, depending on age, with the Tot Trot free. Medals are awarded 3-deep in a wide range of age groups. This event is open to the public, and several area schools have started to put together teams to promote fitness along with cancer awareness. Toyon Middle School students and staff volunteer and host the event, as well as walk and run it. Last year’s entrants came from as far away as Pittsburg, Jackson, Arnold, Lodi, Stockton, and of course all of Calaveras County.
Pre-entries are encouraged to avoid waiting in line on race day. Registration and bib number pick-up are from 8-am-9am. Events start at 9 am. Awards and raffle drawing follow. T-shirts will be available for purchase.
All proceeds benefit American Cancer Society- Relay For Life.
Walkers and runners of all abilities are welcome! No pets, skates, or bicycles, please.
