Markleeville Creek Day
Markleeville Creek Day
10th Annual Markleeville Creek Day

What is Markleeville Creek Day? It is a fun, hands-on event hosted by the Alpine Watershed Group that features watershed restoration projects, education and celebration. The Alpine Watershed Group’s purpose is to help protect stream health and water quality. With your assistance, we can achieve our goal.
This year will mark AWG’s 10th annual Markleeville Creek Day. On Saturday, September 17th we will meet at the Alpine County Library Park located at 270 Laramie Street in Markleeville, California at 10:OO a.m. sharp. Participants will depart shortly thereafter to project sites throughout the area. Projects include invasive weed removal, vegetative protection and restoration, stream bank stabilization, storm drain stenciling, and the Great Sierra River Cleanup. Children can help their parents with these projects or spend the day in supervised youth group learning about watersheds and water quality with many hands-on activities. The day will wrap up back at Library Park at 2:00 p.m. with an ice cream social, face painting, information and education booths. We will also be holding a special tribute to Dan Kaffer, co-founder and on-going supporter of the Alpine Watershed Group. Please join us for this valuable watershed workday. It is a free event and all ages are encouraged to participate. Participants are encouraged to sign-up in advance for a specific project. We recommend you wear work clothes, gloves, and sunscreen. Bring a bag lunch, water, and maybe a camera.
The Alpine Watershed Group would like to thank Alpine County, Carson Water Subconservancy District, and The Rose Foundation, for helping make this event possible.
