West Point Woman Who Started Willow Fire Arrested On Multiple Charges

Posted by: thepinetree on 08/29/2016 09:15 AM
San Andreas, CA...Hogan was driving her vehicle eastbound on Mountain Ranch Rd. For an unknown reason the right rear tire became flat and the rim was in contact with the roadway while she was driving. The rim was causing a shower of sparks that was igniting the grass shoulder of the roadway. A witness behind Hogan attempted to gain her attention however she would not stop her vehicle. The witness eventually drove around Hogan and used his vehicle to stop Hogan by blocking the roadway. He contacted Hogan who did not appear to know that her vehicle was disabled. Due to the fires, Hogan's vehicle was also catching fire. The witness pulled Hogan from the burning vehicle. After an investigation by CHP, Hogan was arrested for driving while under the influence of a controlled substance and driving with a suspended driver license. A Drug Recognition Expert determined that Hogan was under the influence of a Narcotic Analgesic and Cannabis at the time of the incident.

President Obama's Weekly Address : Taking Action Against the Zika Virus

Posted by: thepinetree on 08/29/2016 06:56 AM
Washington, DC...Earlier this year, I got a letter from a South Carolina woman named Ashley, who was expecting her third child. She was, in her words, “extremely concerned” about the Zika virus, and what it might mean for other pregnant women like her. I understand that concern. As a father, Ashley’s letter has stuck with me, and it’s why we’ve been so focused on the threat of the Zika virus. So today, I just want to take a few minutes to let you know what we’ve been doing in response, and to talk about what more we can all do.

Stanislaus National Forest to Implement Insect and Disease Infestation Healthy Forest Restoration Project

Posted by: thepinetree on 08/25/2016 02:13 PM
Sonora, CA...Jeanne Higgins, Stanislaus National Forest Supervisor, signed the Decision Memo (DM) for the Wrights Creek Plantations Healthy Forest Restoration (Wrights Creek HFR) project on the Mi-Wok Ranger District, Stanislaus National Forest (STF) on August 9, 2016, and the first timber sale opportunity Thommy Wright Timber Sale:began advertisement on August 24, 2016 The Wrights Creek HFR project is the first project planned by the Stanislaus National Forest under the new Insect and Disease Infestation categorical exclusion authority granted in the Agriculture Act of 2014 (2014 Farm Bill). This project is unique because we are taking a proactive approach at attempting to address the unprecedented tree mortality affecting the forests of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Insect infestations and outbreaks tend to occur and thrive in stands with little heterogeneity during favorable environmental conditions (i.e. drought). When these conditions occur simultaneously, the probability for insects to encounter a suitable host (i.e. one in which resistance mechanisms (resin) can be overcome) increases greatly. Mortality due to drought and insect and disease has already begun within, and in the vicinity of, the project area.

Mokelumne Wilderness Wildfire Being Managed for Resource Benefits

Posted by: thepinetree on 08/22/2016 07:48 PM
Bear Valley, CA...Firefighters from the Stanislaus National Forest are managing the Mokelumne Fire for multiple objectives including allowing fire to function in its natural role while also suppressing the fire where safe to do so. The Mokelumne Fire was caused by a lighting strike and started on August 19, 2016, in a remote area of the Mokelumne Wilderness on the Stanislaus National Forest. This slow-moving 147-acre fire is burning brush and trees in steep, rugged country with granite cliffs and outcroppings. This makes firefighting on the ground difficult and a concern for the safety of the firefighters. There are 34 personnel including one 10-person crew and a helicopter with the capacity to drop water currently assigned to this incident. Firefighters are using control strategies to manage the impacts and promote the ecological benefits.

Posted by: thepinetree on 06/20/2016 10:08 AM
Arnold, CA...Since 1990 Jon Ellis has had a dream of a great, upscale, custom home community on the beautiful 180 acre Cedar Ridge property. He and his wife Anne have kept pursuing this dream against what have at times been significant odds. Their patience, perseverance and faith have paid off. The property is a former Boy Scout Camp that at times played host to 10,000 young Scouts at a time. That has given way to wide, mostly level streets, underground utilities including electric, water, sewer & more. If you are looking for a mountain lot that is ready for your home these are ready and construction could begin within weeks....
