President Obama's Weekly Address: Weekly Address: Remembering Those Who Have Fallen

Posted by: thepinetree on 05/28/2016 02:03 PM
Washington, DC...Hi, everybody. Right now, there are American troops serving in harm’s way and standing sentry around the world. There are veterans who’ve served honorably in times of war and peace, and often came home bearing the invisible and visible wounds of war. They may not speak the loudest about their patriotism – they let their actions do that. And the right time to think of these men and women, and thank them for their service and sacrifice, is every day of the year. Memorial Day, which we’ll observe Monday, is different. It’s the day we remember those who never made it home; those who never had the chance to take off the uniform and be honored as a veteran. It’s the day we stop to reflect with gratitude on the sacrifice of generations who made us more prosperous and free, and to think of the loved ones they left behind.

Cantamos Kicks Off The 2016 Brice Station Concert Series

Posted by: thepinetree on 05/28/2016 08:02 AM
Murphys, CA...Michela Macfarlane and Cantamos highlight their musical dexterity by moving from arias, traditional Latin songs and musicals, to contemporary favorites. Their music moves seamlessly from English to Italian, Spanish to French to Portuguese, and back again. Michela Macfarlane spent ten years steeped exclusively in baroque music. To expand her singing world she moved to the realms of jazz, pop, and Latin sounds. She is still true to her operatic roots, but has grown as a performer. Michela is backed by Ron Schaner on (Bass and vocal), Fred Treece (Guitar and vocal), Jerry Solberg (Keyboards and vocal) and Ray Price (Drums).

Buckle Up & Save Lives This Weekend. CHP MEP Starts Tonight!

Posted by: thepinetree on 05/27/2016 09:49 AM
Sacramento, CA...Memorial Day weekend, one of the busiest travel weekends of the year, is the traditional start of summer and a time when more travelers and especially families will be on the go. When California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers take to the roads over the Memorial Day weekend, they will be working to save lives through seat belt education and enforcement. To help keep motorists safe, the CHP will be conducting its annual Memorial Day Maximum Enforcement Period (MEP) throughout the state. The MEP begins at 6:01 p.m. on Friday, May 27, and continues through 11:59 p.m. on Monday, May 30. Although the focus of the MEP is seat belt usage, the CHP will be watching just as diligently for distracted drivers and those driving under the influence (DUI) of drugs or alcohol.

AAA: More Than 38 Million Americans Expected to Travel This Memorial Day Weekend

Posted by: thepinetree on 05/26/2016 04:31 PM
Orlando, FL...AAA projects more than 38 million Americans will travel this Memorial Day weekend. That is the second-highest Memorial Day travel volume on record and the most since 2005. Spurred by the lowest gas prices in more than a decade, about 700,000 more people will travel compared to last year. The Memorial Day holiday travel period is defined as Thursday, May 26 to Monday, May 30. “Americans are eagerly awaiting the start of summer and are ready to travel in numbers not seen in more than a decade,” said Marshall Doney, AAA President and CEO. “The great American road trip is officially back thanks to low gas prices, and millions of people from coast to coast are ready to kick off summer with a Memorial Day getaway.”

10,800 Marijuana Plant Seedlings Eradicated on Private Property

Posted by: thepinetree on 05/26/2016 03:57 PM
Copperopolis, CA...On 05-26-2016 members of the Calaveras Narcotics Enforcement Unit eradicated 10,800 marijuana plant seedlings from a rural private property on Rock Creek Road in Copperopolis. Sheriff’s Investigators received a tip that a clandestine water line was found running into a pond on the property. The unknown suspects had attempted to conceal this water line by burying it and covering the line with dirt, rocks, and grass. Suspecting possible illegal marijuana cultivation, investigators checked the property this morning at the request of the owner. The investigators located a campsite hidden in the brush, along with groceries that had been recently brought into the campsite. The water line led from the pond to a series of seed beds containing marijuana seedlings.

The dignity and pride that we have maintained in the use of our logo will not change. Our Mascot Selection Committee was comprised of Calaveras High School alumni, Calaveras High School staff, community members and most importantly Calaveras High school students representing each grade level. The committee chaired by Mike Koepp, CHS Athletic Director, asked for input from all sources that wished to submit their thoughts to suggest a new mascot for our school. All that data was gathered through an on-line survey as well as hand-submitted forms to our office.
