Post Primary Comments From Supervisor Candidate Merita Callaway

Murphys, CA...Having been involved in Calaveras County government for many years, I am constantly impressed with how much the people in District 3 care about our community. The 278 men and women who publicly endorsed my campaign represent a cross section of people who make this district the wonderful place that it is. The Democrats, Republicans, and Independents who supported me are more concerned with achievements than party labels.

Another Instance of Very Active Bears Even at Low Elevations This Season

Posted by: thepinetree on 06/18/2018 05:00 PM
Sonora, CA...We have seen more instances of bear activity in Calaveras & Tuolumne Counties than in any other year in the last 13 years ThePineTree.net has been covering news. This one is from the Tuolumne County Sheriff's Dept. This inquisitive young cub was not even at the Twain Harte level but in the City of Sonora off of Racetrack. "A bear cub makes an appearance in the area of Racetrack Road at East Walnut Street in Sonora. Last week there were several sightings of a mama bear and her cub at a mobile home park and a residential neighborhood in the same vicinity. The two seemed to be searching for food as they curiously sifted through garbage and wandered through a backyard of a residence. A Sheriff’s Deputy searched the area looking for the mama bear but she was no where to be found."

Denair, CA...We originally posted this for Father's in 2006. My father would turn 102 this year if he were here today. This poem was my father's favorite. This one is dedicated to my Father...Jay S. Hamilton. Dad was born in November of 1916 and died in May of 1991. His life saw deep tragedy but he always rose above it. He was born in a house in rural Oklahoma with no electricity or running water. His Mom burned to death when he was 9 years old from a kerosene lantern fire while he was at home.....

Murphys, CA...Still looking to dance and party after the Toby Keith concert? Then, come out to The Lucky Penny for some great Honkey-tonk dance music featuring Big Iron!! They’ll keep the night moving! 21+, No Cover. More about Big Iron: Though built on a foundation of classic dancing, drinking, sing-along music from Buck Owens, George Jones, Don Gibson, Merle Haggard and a slew of others, Big Iron keeps things from getting predictable by mixing in their originals as well as some truly inspired covers (Talking Heads, Nick Lowe, Leonard Cohen, Randy Newman, etc.) all arranged in that same feel-good, barroom style that sound like they could have come out of Nashville or Bakersfield in 1966.
