The High Cost of Not Investing in Your Home~by Sandy Reed of Uniquity Builders

Posted by: Kim_Hamilton on 01/26/2015 04:00 PM
Imagine buying a home for $35,000 in California. Not likely, you’re probably thinking. Not that long ago, in 1970, that’s the price Ken Plourde, a 79-year-old retired jazz bass player, paid for his 992 square foot home in Palo Alto. Since it’s within walking distance from Stanford University, it’s not so surprising that when Plourde decided to sell his home it was snapped up by a Stanford graduate in China for $3 million. A tidy sum for his nest egg, wouldn’t you say? ...

Dear Editor,
I was very pleased to see the refinished billboard for
Marine Lance Cpl Gavin R. Brummund. I had attempted to contact the wonderful gentleman who put it up. I wanted to do a fundraiser for a new one. Every time I drove by the faded one,it made me sad. I would still like to contribute towards the new one. As a Gold Star family, anything we can do to honor our service men and women, who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation, we support. Thank you to the gentleman who did this.
Now I smile and salute him every time I drive by.
Semper Fi,

ThePineTree.net Site Update

Posted by: thepinetree on 01/26/2015 10:50 AM
Arnold, CA...Over the last month and especially the last weekend we have started migrating our main web server to a new faster machine. The RAID System is dying on this machine and we were starting to risk data loss. We have migrated almost 800gb of data to the new machines or uploaded archive video youtube. Over 3,000 videos have been pushed up to youtube that cover everything from football games to board of supervisor videos from 2006-2011. While we did full backups we kept new posts to a minimum. While we bring the new server up over the next few days you will probably see some glitches such as photos missing one day and then showing back up the next day. As always we thank you for your visits and our normal news volume will return this week.

The Flu Peak is Approaching Health Officials Urge Flu Vaccination

Posted by: thepinetree on 01/23/2015 01:54 PM
San Andreas, CA...Dean Kelaita, MD, local health officer of Calaveras County, says that while we are seeing an increase in flu activity in Calaveras County, it is not too late to get vaccinated against the flu. So far this season, influenza A H3N2 viruses have been most common. For comparison, in the 2012-2013, 2007-2008, and 2003-2004 seasons H3N2 strains predominated and had the highest seasonal mortality levels of the past decade. Roughly half of the season’s H3N2 viruses that have been analyzed are ‘drifted’ with antigenic differences from this season’s vaccine H3N2 virus. The vaccine’s ability to prevent infection with drifted H3N2 virus may be diminished....
