Short Term Pine Needle Solutions ~ By Supervisor Michael Oliveira

Posted by: thepinetree on 04/01/2015 10:19 PM
Arnold, CA...On March 26, 2014 we received word that the Cogeneration Plant in Chinese Camp notified Miller’s Rock & Wood Yard that the plant would no longer take the pine needles and ‘green’ yard waste that results from the fire prevention yard work as required under Public Resource Code 4291, which resulted in Miller’s closing their yard until a solution could be found. Effective Thursday April 2nd, Miller’s Rock & Wood Yard in Avery will again start accepting ‘clean’ pine needles at $8 per yard. There is no guarantee that this will not change at some point in the future. Red Hill Disposal site is accepting pine needles from home owners only (no lot clearers or commercial) and is limited to 2 yards of ‘clean’ pine needles....

April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month! Traffic Safety Partners Make Plea to Motorists: ‘Silence the Distraction’

Posted by: thepinetree on 04/01/2015 03:23 PM
Sacramento, CA...To save lives and educate all motorists within California, especially young drivers, about the dangers of distracted driving, the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS), California Highway Patrol (CHP), Impact Teen Drivers, and more than 200 law enforcement agencies statewide are teaming up this month. They will increase education and enforcement efforts for National Distracted Driving Awareness Month in April and California Teen Safe Driving Week, the first week of April. “Driving is a complex task, requiring a motorist’s full attention,” CHP Commissioner Joe Farrow said. “Imagine driving for four or five seconds while blindfolded. That can be the effect of looking down while driving to send a text message. In the average time it takes to send a text message – less than 5 seconds – a car travelling 60 mph will travel the length of a football field.” Collisions caused by distraction occur daily throughout California. In 2013, there were 50 people killed and nearly 4,000 people injured as a result of driver distraction...

Posted by: thepinetree on 04/01/2015 02:50 PM
Sacramento, CA...Following the lowest snowpack ever recorded and with no end to the drought in sight, Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today announced actions that will save water, increase enforcement to prevent wasteful water use, streamline the state's drought response and invest in new technologies that will make California more drought resilient. "Today we are standing on dry grass where there should be five feet of snow. This historic drought demands unprecedented action," said Governor Brown. "Therefore, I'm issuing an executive order mandating substantial water reductions across our state. As Californians, we must pull together and save water in every way possible."

All of the revenue generated by rate increases in 2013 and 2014 is reserved exclusively for the Capital R&R program....
