New Melones, CA...The old bridge just upstream from the Stevenot (49-bridge) has come up in conversation throughout the summer. Many of us wonder when it will be visible from the highway and others have claimed to see it while driving past. Last Friday we used Lowrance GPS and sonar to locate the old bridge. While carefully watching the map and depth finder, heading toward the bridge we were in 136' of water, the moment we crossed the bridge 108' of water and then back to 136' of water. ...

Dear Members and Community Leaders,

In times of water shortage with rationing, it does not make sense to drain the remaining water in our reservoirs to save fish downstream. In fact, experts note that lowering the water level can cause an increase in temperature that will potentially be harmful to juvenile fish. The plan to release water will be very hurtful to the people and especially the farmers, to say nothing about our local economy....

President Obama's Weekly Address: America is Leading the World

Posted by: thepinetree on 09/29/2014 07:22 AM
Washington, DC...Hi, everybody. American leadership is the one constant in an uncertain world. That was true this week, as we mobilized the world to confront some of our most urgent challenges. America is leading the world in the fight to degrade and ultimately destroy the terrorist group known as ISIL. On Monday, our brave men and women in uniform began air strikes against ISIL targets in Syria. And they weren’t alone. I made it clear that America would act as part of a broad coalition, and we were joined in this action by friends and partners, including Arab nations. At the United Nations in New York, I worked to build more support for this coalition; to cut off terrorist financing; and to stop the flow of foreign fighters into and out of that region. And in my address to the UN, I challenged the world -- especially Muslim communities – to reject the ideology of violent extremism, and to do more to tap the extraordinary potential of their young people.

MLL League Football Play Is Underway. Calaveras, Sonora & Amador Start In The Win Column (Updated With Video)

Posted by: thepinetree on 09/27/2014 08:35 AM
Angel Camp, CA...As MLL League play started in earnest for 2014 we webcast the 2014 Big Game last night where the Redskins stomped the Frogs. Bret Harte proved they could move the ball but turnovers killed their early drives and their chances of staying with their cross county rivals. Calaveras High's running game was especially effective. Their passing game did have high points of it's own in racking up a 92 yard passing play touchdown. The final was 42 - 7 and Calaveas retains bragging rights for another year. Amador dropped the Bears with a 21 -14 final. Sonora rolled over Argonaut 41 - 22.
