Angels Camp, CA...Refuge Church on Murphys Grade Road just above Bret Harte High School will be moving to new service times and offering two full services starting this Sunday. Morning service is and 10am and the evening service will be at 6pm.

Arnold, CA...Lost Airedale Terrier (black and tan, 65 lbs., neutered 15 mo. old male) named Angus. He was lost May 1 in the community just behind Big Trees Market and has been sited there yesterday and today, May 2. He is friendly, but now is completely scared and may not come to anyone until he is exhausted. Valley Springs, CA...On 04-29-15 at 1700 hours, the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the 6900 block of Stabulis Road in Valley Springs, to investigate a report of an assault and robbery of a 10 year old boy. The victim was riding his bike with some friends near a pond on Stabulis, when the victim rode away from his friends. The victim was riding when he heard a noise come from some bushes, then he noticed a male adult running towards him. The suspect grabbed the bike and assaulted the boy. The victim yelled for help from his nearby friends and the suspect let go of the juvenile and rode off with his bicycle. The victim ran to his friends and telephoned 9-1-1 to report the incident. The victim did not sustain any visible injuries as a result from the assault...

Angels Camp, CA...Angels Camp resident Paul G. Sherrow passed away at Mark Twain Convalescent Hospital on Monday, April 27, 2015. He was 75 years old. Mr. Sherrow was born in French Camp, CA to James and Betha Sherrow. He lived in Calaveras County for 67 years. He lived in Angels Camp for the past 45 years. Paul worked for the Calaveras Cement Plant as a mechanic welder for 23 years until the plant closed. He then worked at Bret Harte High School and retired after 21 years....

Sacramento, CA...As motorcycle fatalities and injuries have increased in California, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) and Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) have stepped up their efforts to promote safety and education, highlighted by Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month in May. In 2013, motorcycle collisions resulted in 475 fatalities and 13,143 injured victims. In 2012, 467 people were killed and 12,617 were injured. Nationwide, motorcyclists made up 14 percent of all vehicle-related fatalities in 2013, up from about 9 percent in 2004, according to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration data..

Update...TCU command says the fire is 6-8 acres and forward progress has been stopped. Let's be careful out there and permits are required as of today....

Angels Camp, CA...A Grand Opening celebration will be held at Mike’s Main Street Barber Shop in the Baldwin Building, 520 N. Main St., Angels Camp, starting at noon Friday, May 8, officiated by a member of the City Council as a service of Destination Angels Camp. Complimentary refreshments and tasty appetizers will be served. A ribbon cutting ceremony begins at 12:15 p.m. Mike Baker, owner, opened Mike’s Main Street Barber Shop April 14. “I worked for a telecommunications company for 30 years and was ready for a change,” he recalled. After graduating from the Marinelli Barber College in Chico, he worked in barber shops in Paradise and Sonora before deciding to open his own barber shop. His specialty is gentlemen’s haircuts, as well as hot lather straight razor neck shaves. “I have clients from Sonora who liked my services so much, they’re now coming to Angels Camp,” he shared. “Customers really appreciate the hot lather straight razor neck shaves, as they’re hard to come by and it’s a way for men to pamper themselves.”

Salinas, CA...The Sea Otter Classic at Laguna Seca Raceway in Seaside, CA drew over 65,000 bicycling fans April 16-19. Competitions included road bike and mountain bike events with athletes from all over the U.S. and from Canada, including at least 3 young men from our mountain. Vendors and special bicycle demonstrations filled the main area of the raceway. Contests, raffles, give-aways abounded. (In fact, Drew won a fixie bike, goggles, shin guards, sunglasses, and much more!)

Sonora, CA....Firefighters are on scene and CHP is working traffic control near a structure fire near Sr49 / Parrotts Ferry Rd. Please use caution in the area.... Update as of 9:44pm...more units inbound and TCU command has issued a "move up and cover" order to balance out resources in the unit as this incident is worked...Update...Main house at Union Hill Inn burned. At fire peak up to 40 fire fighters from various agencies were on scene. The main house was severely damaged. Cal-Fire TCU has confirmed no injuries but main house and an adjacent building were a complete loss. They had engines on scene throughout the night...

Angels Camp, CA...The Calaveras County Fair and Jumping Frog Jubilee honored the memory of Warren "Buck" King in paint. Buck who passed away earlier this year was involved in many aspects of the Fair, including serving as the the Fair Manager from 1997 to 2003. King was also on the Board of directors. A post from which he resigned to become the Fair Manager. However his area of expertise was the Frog Jump. He officiated the Frog Jump for more than 50 years. First as a member of the Angels Boosters Club and then as a founding member of the Frog Jump Committee. "I learned everything I know about frogs from Buck, how to tell the male from the female, how to care for them and how to respect them", says Laurie Giannini, CEO/Fair manger. Sonora, CA...On 4/28/15 about 6:00 A.M. Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Deputies met with the 44 year old female victim at Sonora Regional Medical Center. The victim had lacerations to both her hands, and her abdomen. The victim related to the Deputies that she had been “stabbed” by an acquaintance, 58 year old Bobbi Ann Burkes. The incident occurred at a residence in the 19000 block of Serrano Road.

Lake Alpine, CA...The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has removed the snow, cleared the debris and made the necessary repairs to reopen State Route 4 (SR-4) over Ebbetts Pass on Monday, April 27, 2015, at approximately 1:30 p.m. In addition, crews reopened Monitor Pass (SR-89) in Alpine County and Sonora Pass (SR-120) in Tuolumne County today....

MaryAnn Jackson, Murphys Resident & Friend Has Passed Away At 76

Murphys, CA...MaryAnn Jackson died peacefully at home on April 19th at the age of 76. She is survived by her loving husband, Ron, her sons Gene Davis(Holly), Steve Davis(Larissa) her stepsons Jeff (Kelly) and Mike(Valerie) and her grandchildren and great grandchildren, Angela(Dave), Lauren, Amanda (Jose), Austin(Bryanna), Adam, Zachary, Olivia, Abigail, Hannah, Audrey, Julian, and Blake. Ron and MaryAnn enjoyed a 34 year marriage filled with love, adventure and great care for one another. They loved golf, road trips, and spending time with friends. MaryAnn loved her children well.

Frogtown, USA...A snazzy new Frogmobile is transporting Calaveras County's Celebrated Jumping Frogs on their annual public appearance tour. The State Captiol Frog Jump highlights the itinerary on May 6 in Sacramento, with many local stop offs scheduled prior to the Calaveras County Fair and Jumping Frog Jubilee, May 14-17 at Frogtown. The frogs and their entourage of Frog Jump Committee members/handlers are traveling in luxury in a van wrapped with frog graphics - courtesy of donations from Angels Sewer and Drain and the Wintercreek Foundation. Graphics are by Eric Calialgro.
White Pines (Not Arnold), CA...The White Pines Park Committee is holding their annual park clean up on May 2nd from 9am - 1pm. Lunch will be served but bring your rake. This will get White Pines Park polished up and ready for another summer season.
