San Andreas, CA...February 24, 2017– Mark Twain Medical Center (MTMC) is proud to announce the names of the several Calaveras County not-for-profit organizations to receive the Mark Twain Medical Center Community Grant for 2016. The hospital honored grant recipients at an awards luncheon held February 22, 2017. To date, more than $380,000 has been awarded to Calaveras organizations by the MTMC Community Grants Program. The Mark Dignity Health Community Grants Program varies according to the size of each hospital. Applicants must be a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, or have a fiscal agent that is a 501(c)(3) organization and capable of administering the funds; the project or program must be a response to the health priorities identified in the local Dignity Health hospital’s community health assessment or benefit plan, and the project to be funded must involve collaboration with a minimum of two other organizations and/or with a Dignity Health hospital in our community.

The forecast was a bit off for the overnight as it suggested 2-4" but 9" fell instead. another possible 1-2" of snow could fall today before the system makes it's way East. The presenters had mistakenly been given the wrong category envelope and when discovered, was immediately corrected. We are currently investigating how this could have happened, and deeply regret that this occurred. It’s a reliably Red District where Donald Trump won 54% of all votes cast in 2016 and Tom won 63%. Tom won his first election in 2008 and has won four since. Tom’s World is a safe Republican seat in a state that elected Hillary Clinton by more than 4.5 million votes. I know Tom’s World rather well because unlike Tom, I actually live in the Congressional District that he represents.
Murphys, CA...A pro-Measure B sign near the Gold Creek neighborhood on highway 26 was heavily damaged by vandals over night on Saturday, February 25. The sign, having been erected only two days prior was taken down from its supporting structure, which was also damaged, and sliced with a sharp instrument. David Tunno of The Committee to Ban Commercial Cultivation, and a proponent of Measure B repaired the sign the following morning.

Snow showers likely in the morning, then a chance of snow showers in the afternoon. Highs 20 to 35 higher elevations...35 to 43 lower elevations. Snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches. Bear Valley, CA...Hey Good People! As Sunday unfolds snow shower activity is expected although more later than earlier today. A high of 29F is expected with East winds from 6-15mph with possible gusts to 23mph. Tonight as the next wave of snow arrives we could pick up 3-5" of new snow and with an expected low of 19F skiing /riding should be excellent. Continued snow is expected for Monday with 1-3" expected as snowfall elevations for this system will be in the 2000-3500' range.. Arnold, CA...A quick Message about White Pines Park and Blagen Road from Supervisor Michael Oliveira: By now, it’s common knowledge that we have a serious issue with the storm damage in Calaveras County and on Blagen Road in White Pines. Blagen Road is one area that has been impacted by damage as many other areas in Calaveras County. On Tuesday, February 28th, at the Board of Supervisors meeting, a Disaster Response Program will be presented by Public Works Director Jeff Crovitz. During the discussion of this item, the Blagen Road issue will be reviewed. I have extended an email invitation to CCWD General Manager David Eggerston and District 3 Representative Bertha Underhill to attend to provide input for a solution to the problem.

Bear Valley, CA....Hey Good People! 58" in the last week and well riding is exceptional with the continued cold temps on the backside of the recent storm system. Continued upper level low pressure will be in effect through the weekend and into Tuesday so expect snow showers to continue until that time. Today the high comes in around 25F with mostly sunny skies and East winds from 5-10mph. The second pulse of this low pressure system will arrive Sunday and drop snow levels down to a possible 1-2000' and 2-4" is expected for that system with snow ratios of 15:1 which equals super light density snowfall and we all know what that means.......Someone's been talking to Ullr............ Come up to Bear Valley and experience our local "Pure Mtn Fun" ethos and stay tuned..........

In addition to the events held last year, Three Man Cattle Penning has returned along with Ranch Roping.
