Sonora Regional Medical Center Names MAKOplasty® Robot

Posted by: Andy_Johnson on 04/22/2014 01:20 PM
Sonora, CA ...The Center for Joint Replacement and its panel of orthopedic surgeons have selected the name MaRIO as the winning entry for the MAKOplasty® robot. Sonora Regional Medical Center employee Poline King submitted the winning name. The assembly of surgeons received over 170 suggestions over the course of five weeks. The name is based on the highly advanced, surgeon-controlled robotic arm system, RIO®, used to perform MAKOplasty® procedures. The RIO® system enables the surgeon to complete a patient specific pre-surgical plan using a CT scan of the patient’s knee. During the procedure, the system creates a three-dimensional, virtual view of the patient’s bone surface and correlates the image to the pre-programmed surgical plan. As the surgeon uses the robotic arm, the RIO® system provides tactile, auditory and visual feedback, limiting the bone preparation to just the diseased areas. This process helps preserve more of the patient’s knee while providing optimal positioning of the implant.

Sheriff Gary Kuntz "Why I’m Running For Re-Election

Posted by: thepinetree on 04/08/2014 01:01 PM
Calaveras County, CA...When I ran for Sheriff four years ago, law enforcement in Calaveras County faced some real challenges. I believed then that my 24-year career in Calaveras County law enforcement made me the best candidate to confront those challenges, and I asked for your vote. I sincerely appreciate the trust placed in me by the voters. Back then I pledged to fight for public safety. I pledged to put emphasis back on community policing. I pledged to help get the jail project back on track, and to restore trust in the Sheriff’s office. Today, working together, we have made real progress on all these fronts.

Frog's Wild Ride Rolls Out Another Perfect Foothill Day

Posted by: Andy_Johnson on 04/20/2014 08:29 PM
Murphys, CA .. . The temperature rolled into the 70's as the last riders rolled into Feeney Park in Murphys last Saturday afternoon. Barbeque chicken, beans, salad and rolls were ready for the cyclists as they wound down from the 100 kilometer and 50 kilometer rides ranging from Feeney Park westward and back. The Rehydration Tent featured lots of water and beer and wine; first beer free for all riders. The DJ kept the energy alive spinning vinyl and the breeze blew up enough to fill the air with spring. A person could not help but feel healthy and happy particularly after a massage.

Caltrans Promotes Biking & Walking Projects

Posted by: Andy_Johnson on 04/20/2014 01:52 PM
SACRAMENTO, CA ...Caltrans is asking cities and counties throughout California to submit applications for projects that promote biking and walking that will vie for a share of $360 million in federal and state funding from the state’s new Active Transportation Program – the nation’s largest. “Today’s transportation system is about more than just highways,” said Caltrans Director Malcolm Dougherty. “Active transportation projects are a good investment and will help achieve mobility, safety, and greenhouse gas reduction goals for California.” The program will receive about $120 million annually, so the $360 million figure announced today represents three-years of funding. Last year, Governor Brown signed legislation (Senate Bill 99, Chapter 359 and Assembly Bill 101, Chapter 354) creating the ATP, which distributes funding for human-powered transportation projects and programs. The new program replaces a patchwork of small grant programs with a comprehensive program that is more efficient. Another benefit is that funds can be directed to multi-year projects to make greater long-term improvements to active transportation.

Angels Camp, CA ... Jay Joseph Genovese, 61, said his final “Goodbyes” to friends and family at his home in Angels Camp, CA on April 13, 2014. Born Sept. 21, 1952 in Monterey, CA to Matteo Genovese and Elizabeth Schwartz, Jay’s passions were fishing and food best shared with friends and family and a good helping of laughter. The adventures of Jay and Susie, his wife and partner of 33 yrs., took them from the Sierras to the Napa Valley, a cattle ranch in North Fork, NV, to fishing in Seward, AK, to Monterey and back home to the foothills of the Sierras. He was a “Man to ride the river with”: a good man and a generous friend. In lieu of services, please plant some poppies in a place that will surprise you, make you smile and remember him.
