Kansas group helps keep young people in rural towns

Posted by: thepinetree on 06/17/2013 06:03 PM
BALDWIN CITY, Kan. — Young people have been leaving rural America for decades, but Mike Bosch, 34, is happy to swim against the tide. Instead of moving his fast-growing information technology services company to his hometown of Dallas last year, Bosch chose to stay in Baldwin City, Kan., population 4,515. The business, Reflective Group, sits between a car repair shop and post office on a quiet cobblestone street. All but two of the company's 17 employees are under 40

Reuters: Kevin Murphy. Young people in rural towns: Mike Bosch, part of a 'rural by choice' movement, is pictured in Baldwin City, Kan., where he kept his technology business instead of moving it to Dallas. With technology, companies can operate online from small towns, which offer lower costs and dedicated workers.

Do You Need Extra Space With Extra Space? We Can Do That For You!

Posted by: thepinetree on 06/17/2013 03:54 PM
Murphys, CA...As we put the finishing touches on our most recent project in Murphys, California, I wanted to put together this fun video to show you the progress from start to finish. This addition started out as quite a challenge for our crew. In addition to the bedroom we were adding to the house, the homeowner also wanted a cellar underneath. Ok, no problem, right? WRONG! Almost right away, we were stopped dead in our tracks by a huge chunk of solid mountain rock! But we persevered and came out victorious!

WEEKLY ADDRESS: Celebrating Father's Day Weekend

Posted by: thepinetree on 06/17/2013 12:05 AM
Washington, DC...Remarks of President Barack Obama. As Prepared for Delivery. The White House, June 15, 2013. Hi, everybody. This Sunday is Father’s Day, and so I wanted to take a moment to talk about the most important job many of us will ever have – and that’s being a dad. Today we’re blessed to live in a world where technology allows us to connect instantly with just about anyone on the planet. But no matter how advanced we get, there will never be a substitute for the love and support and, most importantly, the presence of a parent in a child’s life. And in many ways, that’s uniquely true for fathers.

Fire Update...Vegetation Fire off of Parrotts Ferry Road

Posted by: thepinetree on 06/16/2013 06:45 PM
Columbia, CA...Crews are working a vegetation fire started when a vehicle went off the roadway on the grade heading up to Columbia from the lake in the Toulumne County Side. Two air tankers have diverted to this incident which is about a mile or so from the Columbia Air Attack base. Update as of 6:50pm...fire is about 1/2 acre at this time and is still below Parrotts Ferry. There is potential for spotting across Parrotts Ferry and at last word some retardent has been dropped on or right near the road so you can assume traffic to or from Calaveras to Tuolunne needs to go Hwy 49. Drops are being done now and they are making plans for their hose-lay to get some liquid on it to cool it down....

Firefigters are battling a 100 acre fire off Carstens Rd., east of Hwy 140 in the Midpines area. There has been some talk that if crews cannot get it slowed down by morning the heavy DC-9's etc may be called in to start putting some larger loads of retardant down...

"IF" By Rudyard Kipling Jay Hamilton's 1916-1990 Favorite Poem. Happy Father's Day Dad

Posted by: thepinetree on 06/16/2013 01:19 PM
Every Year since ThePineTree.net has been online we post "If" in Honor of the Greatest man I have ever known! My Father....Jay S. Hamilton. Cancer took him way to early, 22 years ago last month. He was a man among men.

IF
By, Rudyard Kipling

IF you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;
If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: 'Hold on!'

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
' Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch,
if neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!

Sometimes Bad Math Makes Everything Add Up! By John Hamilton

Posted by: thepinetree on 06/16/2013 01:14 PM
Arnold, CA...As many of you know who have stopped by ThePineTree.net over the last 8 years we try to resist the urge to write editorials. We feel our readers probably do not care or should care what our personal thoughts are on a given matter. Today on Father's Day though I couldn't resist as I thought I should pass along a personal reminder that all of us have more strength than we think. I hope my experiences last night and this morning might help you redouble your efforts as it has really helped me. Ok enough stalling and onto the story...as some of you know at the ripe old age of 47 ½ I made the decision to try and get back into shape and after losing 70lbs or so and keeping it off I felt fairly positive about the progress on many levels...
