Fire Update...Two Acre Vegetaton Fire Near Airola Ranch

Posted by: thepinetree on 07/12/2014 07:41 PM
Dorrington, CA....We just checked in with TCU Command and air and ground resources are on scene of a two acre fire near Airola Ranch. More to follow if needed. Hopefully not....Update...forward progress was stopped and crews will be on scene for awhile to make sure it is controlled. Great work everyone. Handling this fire were a mixture of Federal and State resources. From what we have observed this year so far that even fires in USFS areas are being jumped early and hard similar to SRA or state responsibility area. Looks like lessons from the Rim Fire have been put into place.

Weekly Address: Expanding Opportunity – It’s Time for Congressional Republicans to Do Their Part

Posted by: thepinetree on 07/12/2014 10:41 AM
Washington, DC...Hi, everybody. This week, I spent some time in Colorado and Texas, talking with people about what’s going on in their lives. One of them was Elizabeth Cooper, who’ll be a college junior this fall. She wrote to tell me something I hear often: how hard it is for middle-class families like hers to afford college. And she shared something I know many of you feel when you wonder what’s going on in Washington. She said she feels “not significant enough to be addressed, not poor enough for people to worry [about], and not rich enough to be cared about.”

Murphys, Ca...Mountain Christian Fellowship in Murphys will be hosting an international photography and film event on July 20th at 6PM at their worship center on Highway 4. His wife, Veronica, will also be sharing her own stories about the work she is doing against human trafficking in Thailand. “I enjoy using my photography as a tool to connect with people and to add value to their lives.” says Rob. “Recently, I’ve been able to work more with video and film-making. I’m part of a team that makes films for indigenous people groups. Films made in their language, using their own people as actors. Films they can relate to. It’s awesome to think that for many of these people groups, ours are the first films they have ever seen in their own language!” Rob will be showing his team’s most recent film at this event. It’s a story of a young Buddhist boy from southern Thailand who has been stigmatised with bad karma, but finds acceptance through his kind uncle who shares his same struggle...

Letter to the Editor Concerning World Population Day,

Posted by: Lea_Marie_C_Paar on 07/10/2014 10:27 PM
World Population Day, observed annually on July 11, was created by the United Nations in recognition of the need to raise awareness about the problems created by growing human populations. Not long ago, on July 11, 1987, the world's population reached Five Billion people. Today there are more than Seven Billion people and we are adding 227,000 more each day. Common sense tells us that this cannot go on forever. We are already running out of space, food, and clean water in many places the world. Indeed, climate change, and the concurrent crisis- species extinction - are the result of too many people living in disregard of earth's limits. The toll of wildlife has been devastating: species are going extinct at a rate 1,000 times greater than what is normal. 25% of ALL species are now endanger of extinction. The number one cause is habitat destruction by people. This impending huge loss of biodiversity will cost us much more than our most cherished creatures- orangutans, rhinos, elephants, tigers, pandas, etc. It will imperil the stability of the web-of-life on which we all depend....

Mike, a seven-year resident of Forest Meadows, has been partnered with his eleven-year-old mentee, Nathan Leon, for just over a year. “Mike approaches mentoring with a wonderful enthusiasm and attention to his mentee,” said Colleen Dolan, Coordinator of Mentoring Programs for the Calaveras County Office of Education. “When I asked Mike if he wanted to mentor Nathan for a second year, his response was, ‘Whatever Nathan wants, I can do!’” Mike and Nathan both enjoy being outdoors and exploring the history of Calaveras County. The two of them have taken many trips around the area visiting Moaning Caverns and Columbia State Historic Park. “One of Nathan’s favorite things to do is to go out exploring the hills around our property on one of our ATVs,” said Mike. “And that just happens to be one of my favorite things to do too! Central Sierra Connect is a program of the Amador-Tuolumne Community Action Agency. Our vision is to bridge the digital divide by bringing broadband to the people and the people to broadband. Right now, that vision is threatened by inaccurate information being used by decision makers in Sacramento and Washington D.C. Our region needs high speed, broadband Internet service in order to grow and prosper in today’s economy. We need to get accurate information into the hands of those who fund the projects that can make that happen. To do that, we need to know about the Internet service you receive at your home and business addresses. And we've made it super easy to do – it only takes 5 minutes! Just click below or on this link to access the Internet Service Reporting Form:
