Aircraft were also dispatched to this fire, with one tanker making a drop on the fire and copter 404 putting their crew on the ground and making a few drops on the fire. One tanker was released without masking a drop. The other tanker was released after it made a drop. Copter 404 was released after making a few drops on the fire and picking up their crew. The Bottom Photo is from Cal Fire TCU of the offending campfire. Other than starting the blaze and a poor choice of campfire days you have to have to admit it is a nice rustic looking campfire setting.

In Win For Privacy Supreme Court Rules Warrant Needed For Phone Location Data

Posted by: thepinetree on 06/22/2018 12:26 PM
Washington, DC...Some paragraphs from Roberts's Opinion..."The Fourth Amendment protects “[t]he right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures.” The “basic purpose of this Amendment,” our cases have recognized, “is to safeguard the privacy and security of individuals against arbitrary invasions by governmental officials.” Camara v. Municipal Court of City and County of San Francisco, 387 U. S. 523, 528 (1967). The Founding generation crafted the Fourth Amendment as a “response to the reviled ‘general warrants’ and ‘writs of assistance’ of the colonial era, which allowed British officers to rummage through homes in an unrestrained search for evidence of criminal activity.” Riley v. California, 573 U. S. ___, ___ (2014) (slip op., at 27). In fact, as John Adams recalled, the patriot James Otis’s 1761 speech condemning writs of assistance was “the first act of opposition to the arbitrary claims of Great Britain” and helped spark the Revolution itself. Id., at ___–___ (slip op., at 27–28) (quoting 10 Works of John Adams 248 (C. Adams ed. 1856)).

The Gorilla Foundation is Sad to Announce the Passing of Our Beloved Koko

Posted by: thepinetree on 06/21/2018 10:04 AM
Woodside, CA...Koko — the gorilla known for her extraordinary mastery of sign language, and as the primary ambassador for her endangered species — passed away yesterday morning in her sleep at the age of 46. Koko touched the lives of millions as an ambassador for all gorillas and an icon for interspecies communication and empathy. She was beloved and will be deeply missed. Koko, a western lowland gorilla, was born Hanabi-ko (Japanese for “Fireworks Child”) on July 4, 1971 at the San Francisco Zoo. Dr. Francine “Penny” Patterson began working with Koko the next year, famously teaching her sign language. Dr. Patterson and Dr. Ronald Cohn moved Koko and the project to Stanford in 1974 and went on to establish The Gorilla Foundation. While at Stanford the project expanded to include a second western lowland gorilla, Michael. In 1979 Koko and The Gorilla Foundation moved to the Santa Cruz Mountains where Ndume joined them as a fellow ambassador for their species.

Supreme Court Rules Sales Tax For All

Posted by: thepinetree on 06/21/2018 09:16 AM
Washington, DC...JUSTICE KENNEDY delivered the opinion of the Court. When a consumer purchases goods or services, the consumer’s State often imposes a sales tax. This case requires the Court to determine when an out-of-state seller can be required to collect and remit that tax. All concede that taxing the sales in question here is lawful. The question is whether the out-of-state seller can be held responsible for its payment, and this turns on a proper interpretation of the Commerce Clause, U. S. Const., Art. I, §8, cl. 3.

Posted by: thepinetree on 06/21/2018 07:51 AM
Angels Camp, CA...There’s a new insurance option in town – one with a face many in Calaveras County might find familiar. Jim Bailey, a resident of Murphys, California, has taken over the old Angels Camp AAA location at 465 S. Main St in Angels Camp. “AAA made the decision to leave Angels Camp but I decided to stay in Calaveras County. I am a member of this community, and everything it represents. So instead of leaving, I decided to start an office of my own and continue serving the people in Calaveras County in the best way I know how. I’m proud to be able to be here to help locals find the insurance coverage they need. It’s a community I know and one I look forward to continuing to help in any way I can.” – Jim Bailey, City Underwriting Agency with Jim Bailey
