Fine Day For A Fiery Fete~By Andrea Silva

Copperopolis, CA......This past weekend the “Magical Fruit” got a makeover as contestants from all over Northern California converged on the Copperopolis Towne Square for the first annual Copperopolis Chili Cook Off. With 20 contestants and 750 votes cast, the event could be summed up as a huge success....

The California Outlaws band rocked the stage while kids were treated to a tour of an antique fire truck. Vintage cars and sleek Corvettes dotted the streets. A rare “Delorean” (the car used in the movie “Back to the Future”) looked right at home in front of the movie-esque Clock Tower.

Chili tasting was so poplar that most contestants ran out of samples by 2:00 in the afternoon. The party continued well into the evening at the new Italian restaurant, Paninni’s, where the who’s-who of Copperopolis could be found sipping wine on the patio, or inside sampling some “Fried artichokes with spicy butter sauce”.

The event was organized by The Copperopolis Towne Square, and will be used a fundraiser for the Copperopolis Volunteer Fire Department. A ceremony will be held to present a check to the Fire Department later this month.
