Trinitas Easements Get 5-0 Vote From CCWD Board to Launch Groundwater Monitoring in Western Calaveras
San Andreas, CA....The CCWD Board voted 5-0 this morning to accept land and access easements from Trinitas to house a high-tech clustered groundwater monitoring well that will launch its groundwater monitoring program in western Calaveras County. The US geological Survey has been contracted to install the well on the Trinitas Project site to provide the most advanced data gathering tool for groundwater aquifer movements that.....
Calaveras County has ever seen. “ This is just the first step in a long series of steps” stated CCWD in a letter read to the Board at Wednesday meeting, to establish a network of data collection points to start to understand the groundwater situation in western Calaveras County. Trinitas owner Mike Nemee was on hand to support CCWD’s efforts, “our family is looking forward to partnering with CCWD on this historic initiative to preserve surface water rights for all county residents and to provide reliable surface water to agricultural users in Western Calaveras County. “ While the land is being donated by Trinitas, funding for the monitoring well is being provided by a grant from the State of California to the tune of $80,000. If Trinitas is approved as proposed, CCWD would be reimbursed for the $80,000 for the well and receive a $6.5 million pledge toward a future pipeline hookup by Trinitas.
“Funding agencies want to see partnerships and community buy in. This has necessitated a great deal of outreach on the part of CCWD to gain community support for our work and find additional partners. Our representatives have gone to community functions, meetings and gatherings to try and garner this support. …..We have used this as an example of how a private sector partner working with a public agency can achieve results.” Said CCWD Board President Bob Dean.
