The Weekend Warrior Report~by Andrea Silva

Rain, rain, don’t go away we have lots of indoor activities to do today! The weather will be wet and chilly over the weekend but that does not mean you have to stay home in your pajamas all day. There is a cornucopia of rainy day activities going on this weekend. So grab your umbrella and throw on those galoshes, you’re in for a wild ride….

SAVE

Get your dueling gloves out and stalk on down to the Valley Springs Vet Hall this Friday or Saturday for the “Showdown at Lola’s Saloon”, a melodrama presented by the Friends of the Library. This weekend you can see the show for just $10 or wait until next weekend and get a true taste of “Dinner Theater” for $20 (enjoy a Pork Loin Entrée & no host bar with the show). For show times and tickets call 772-1000

SPEND

“Escanaba in da Moonlight” is playing at the Black Bart Theater. Ladies, this is a rare find, a play your husband will actually want to go to see with you. Why? Because it is about hunting, humor, and……..long johns. If your man is still not on board for going, tell him that this play was written by Jeff Daniels, the star of “Dumb and Dumber”, and there is sure to be some testosterone driven jokes about undesirable bodily functions. Shows are at 8pm on Friday and Saturday then Sunday matinee at 2pm. Tickets are just $15 buy them online at www.murphyscreektheatre.org.

SPLURGE

If it wasn’t for the Humane Society my life would be boring and drab. 17 years ago I got my first dog from rescue; she has been my constant companion traveling all over the countryside with me. If it wasn’t for her I don’t think I would have had the courage to take off on so many soul seeking road trips. She is now retired and stays home for the most part but I rescued my newest companion, an English Pointer named Guinness, about 6 years ago. He is a bundle of boundless energy that keeps me on my toes every dog-on day. The joy and contentment I get from these incredible animals is immeasurable and I am always amazed that someone somewhere discarded these little blessings. If you have a similar story, please come to Play for Pets and show your support for the Calaveras Humane Society. You will roll on the floor with laughter as Comedian Christopher Titus (of the show “Titus”), then get your High Roller status at the Monte Carlo style Casino tables. Tickets are $85 or $125 for VIP call 209-768-6572

Fat Tuesday has just passed and the Mardi Gras Party rocks on throughout the rest of the week. Chatom Vineyards will be getting all dolled up in beads and costume to celebrate with their very own Mardi Gras Dinner, complete with live music, dancing, gourmet food, wine and a contest for best costume! Get a little taste of New Orleans, but keep your clothes on. Event starts at 6pm, tickets are $75 get them by calling 209-736-6500.

GOOD SAMARITAN

Many people are surprised to learn that the Jazz Choir who takes home so many national awards is from a little itty bitty town called Tuolumne, that most of the country has never even heard of. If you have never had the pleasure of seeing them in action do not miss the Summerville High Schools “Swingin’ At The Ritz”. Performances by the famous Jazz Choir, Jazz Band, Orange Crush Band, Show Choir and Choraliers will take place this Saturday evening, 7pm at the Summerville High School. Cost is $10 and proceeds benefit the School’s music program. Pick up your tickets at the Mountain Book Shop, Schnoogs Café, Live Oak Music or the Summerville Office. For more information call 586-0303.

WILD CARD

Just in case, the weatherman is wrong and we do get some sunlight this weekend, make haste over to San Andreas to get a peek at Open Garden Day from 10am-2pm. I have been told that the The Master Gardner’s can help turn even the blackest thumb a fresh shade of spring green. Tours and Demonstrations will be held throughout the day. The best part……….it’s all free. The Masters Gardener’s Demonstration Garden is located next to the Government Center in San Andreas. For more information 209-754-6477.
