San Andreas Resident, Janine Marie Lodato-Rakoczi Has Passed Away
Born in Stockton, California, June 29, 1948, Janine Marie Lodato-Rakoczi passed away on the morning of February 25, 2009 from complications of multiple sclerosis. Raised in San Andreas, she has resided their for the past 8 years. She is survived by her husband, Mr. Laszio Rakoczi of San Andreas; her father, Jack Lodato; her brothers, J.D. Lodato and James Lodato; her sister, Jennifer Lodato Brook; nephews Zack Lodato, Avery Lodato and Matthew Brock, and nieces Ashley Lodato Albright and Bronwen Lodato; her step-daughter Katherine Kramer and step-granddaughter, Sherry Kerr; three grand nieces and three grand nephews.....
A graduate of Calaveras High School, Ms. Lodato-Rakoczi graduated cum laude from the University of the Pacific earning a BA and teaching credential. She taught PE and coached women's sports at Bret Harte High School. Following a teaching opportunity in French Polynesia, she earned her Masters of International Relations from California State University Sacramento. She joined the staff of then California State Senator John Garamendi, and spent several years working as a personal assistant to the Senator in the State Capitol. She worked as a tutor and writer, authoring several books, including the story of her husband's escape from Hungary in 1956.
Ms. Lodato-Rakoczi has inspired family members and friends from all over the world with her 35 year struggle against the debilitating effects of MS. She continued to host a gathering of her loyal and supportive friends from high-school monthly, maintaining an active social role. She is widely published as an author; she and her husband, who has been her care-taker for over 20 years have been active in the cause of championing the disabled and the care-giver by writing many essays and commentary. Although the ravage of MS destroyed her physically, she remained mentally active and productive.
Internment will be held privately, and a memorial service will be held on March 14th at 11am at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in San Andreas, where she was a member.
