Public Transportation Funding on the Slide, Changes to Current Calaveras Transit routes proposed. Public Input and Awareness Important as Routes and Services Trimmed.~by Tyler Summerset
The Calaveras Council of Governments, in cooperation with Calaveras County Public Works Department, will be soliciting public comments regarding proposed changes to Calaveras Transit services at the next CCOG Meeting on May 6th at 6:30pm. The California legislature, in an effort to address the State budget deficit is using all of the State Transit Assistance (STA) funding that previously came to public transportation providers. In addition the amount of sales tax that is being collected has ....
decreased, which further reduces funding for Calaveras Transit. Project planners invite ALL concerned citizens to discuss the impacts of reduced funding for public transportation, while recognizing that Calaveras Transit must operate within a fiscally constrained budget.
At the Public Hearing, planners will share results of recent surveys, data analysis, alternatives to current services and proposed changes.
The Public Hearing is being held as part of the Calaveras Transit Short Range Transit Plan update. This Plan is updated every five years to evaluate system efficiency, effectiveness, capital needs and funding. The Short Range Plan will address public transportation issues, such as, the public’s ability to access social services, education, employment, regional destinations and recreational opportunities.
The Public Hearing will allow planners to share proposed service alternatives and collect public feedback prior to finalizing the Plan and proposed service alternatives which will be presented to the Board of Supervisors in June.
For more information about the Calaveras Transit Short Range Transit Plan and Public Hearing, or if you are unable to attend but would like to provide input, please call Tyler Summersett at the Calaveras Council of Governments, (209) 754-2094 ext 104.
