The Passing of My Dad ~By Rod Weathers

Muphys, CA...Local Contractor Rod Weathers sent this to us on the passing of his father Alex Weathers last Tuesday. We were going to try and rewrite it but it is better as Rod wrote it. "John, I just wanted to let you know my dad Alex Weathers passed away late Tuesday night 5/12. My dad lived in Arnold from 1976 when he retired from the pool service business, through 1997. My Dad was a very active member of the Arnold Rotary and designed and helped build the bleachers at Courtright/Emerson ballpark. My Dad bought his first home/cabin from Ken Demuse (his own personal and model chalet home), the developer of Blue Lake Springs on the 18th green of Sequoia Woods Country Club. He bought the house across the street on the first tee of the golf course and lived there until '97. My Dad built numerous homes in Blue Lake Springs, and who I got my start and learned the construction trade from....

He was active in church attending first Big Trees Community Bible Church and then Chapel in the Pines until he and my Mom moved to Sun City, AZ in '97. They lived there until 2003 when they moved to Clovis, CA.

My Dad was a Navy pilot and pilot trainer during WW II. I have lots of stories that he told me and our family of what crazy stunts he pulled in his airplanes that landed him in trouble on many of occasion. I have attached copies of a paper he wrote (in 3rd person) for a research paper he did for my son Tucker back in 3/05, that will give you a background of just some of the things my father did. He owned and successfully ran 3 businesses in Los Altos, CA (a swimming pool service business, a swimming pool and patio products retail store, and a bicycle store) from 1968-1976. If my dad didn't know ow to do something he would research it, practice it and then do it. He would never keep his talents to himself and was always helping those in need around him and in the community. He had many friends in the community. He absolutely loved to fish and spent many days on Melones and up on the river fishing. If I could live just 1/100th of what my Dad did I would truly leave a great legacy as he has.

My dad was diagnosed with Mesothelioma cancer (caused from asbestos exposure) in 2/08. He was taking a chemotherapy called Alimta. Average lifespan from time of diagnosis is 9 months. It was very hard to see him at the end when we saw him Sunday/Mother's day as he was in such pain as he had developed shingles, had MRSA staph infection, his lung had filled up again with fluid and was drained, & his skin was so thin that it tore every time he was moved. We knew his time was short and now we are glad that he is in heaven and not suffering any more.

His Memorial Service will be at 11am 5/18 @ Riverpark Bible Church ( http://riverpark.org/ ) 7500 N. Millbrook Fresno, CA 93720
reception to follow at the church. In lieu of flowers people can make a donation to the American Cancer Society http://www.cancer.org/docroot/DON/content/DON_0.1_Gifts_in_Memory.asp

Thanks again,
Rod
