Calaveras County Artist Wins Top Honors at State Fair
Bead Artist Sue Horine of Mountain Ranch won top honors at the California State Fair in the Jewelry Art division with a First and Second place finish in the Bead Woven Art class. Ms. Horine has been creating her one of a kind pieces for 5 years and has won numerous awards for her fine beadwork. These recent awards are the highest honors Ms. Horine has achieved in her 5 years of beading. Her bead work is inspired by the semi-precious gemstone cabochons her grandparents left her. New Mexico taught her the basics of seed bead work. The combination of this bead work and the beautiful cabochons are what makes her work all come together. This bead work involves the incorporation of tiny glass beads, each hand embroidered on leather or other fabrics to create the nature inspired creations. The pieces which took top honors at the State Fair took over 70 hours to complete. Ms. Horine has had several pieces featured in internationally distributed bead work magazines and catalogs.
