Current Knight Fire Update as of 9:30pm This Evening
Mt. Knight....... Mt. Knight Fire Update as of 9:30pm this evening. We just spoke with Dwayne Lyon of the Stanislaus National Forest Fire Information Center. This is what he stated "Fire remains at 1643 acres with 10% containment. Crews have completed an East flank of the boundary with bulldozers and have laid hose in order to use water to further the events of stopping the fire. The Western side is still awaiting completion. They are going to start a burn out at the narrow bend of blackened underbrush to create a black zone that will deny any fuel to any fire coming up the slope....
The night shot above is of the Columbia Air Attack Base Tonight just before dark with all the aircraft tucked in for the night. Not pictured are the helicopter airtankers resting in the main portion of the Columbia airport. There are 15 Helicopters and 6 Airtankers, almost 1,100 firefighters, 42 Engines, 12 Dozers, 12 Water Tenders and much more fighting this 1,650 acre fire...

Again, the West flank, Southern boundary yet to be completed. Crews are actively constructing contingency dozer lines on the North side of the river as a precaution against possible fire spotting. Fire has burned down to the southern bend fork.
To confirm, the fire is still several miles up the middle fork of the Stanislaus River. Where the real concern would be if it makes it several miles down river to where the forks of the Stanislaus meet behind the Darby Knob and Forest Meadows. They are actively working the old Darby dozer lines that were used 8 years ago."
Experts believe that it is highly unlikely that the fire would be able to travel that far downstream without an extraordinary turn of events. Another comforting fact is that are 15 helicopters and 6 air tankers on this fire at this time.
If there is spotting they have enough resources on hand to actively knock down any spots should they occur.
One of the tough things about this fire has been the extremely difficult terrain. In some cases, the crews have had to set their lines and let the fire come to them.
Great job crews. More updates to come as we receive them.....
