Interview with Tony Nunes 2008 2nd place winner Ski Lite World Finals~by Charity Maness

Copperopolis, CA....Tony Nunes seems like your average all American kid, the natural good looks, the teen confidence, the good grades, but underneath all that average boy charm lay a 2008 2nd place overall winner in Jr. 13-15 Ski lites class World Finals held in Havasu City, Arizona. Thats right, World Finals. Tony competed against 18 other countries in 24 classes to achieve his title. This kid is no slouch....

Tony Nunes seems like your average all American kid, the natural good looks, the teen confidence, the good grades, but underneath all that average boy charm lay a 2008 2nd place overall winner in Jr. 13-15 Ski lites class World Finals held in Havasu City, Arizona. Thats right, World Finals. Tony competed against 18 other countries in 24 classes to achieve his title. This kid is no slouch.

Tony received his first 'ski' for his 7th birthday and has been skiing ever since. He didn't start to enter competition racing until 2007 when his
neighbor Bruce Smith, 67 years old and still racing, introduced him to the adrenalin pumping, action packed sport. It wasn't long before he was
hooked. And what better place than to ski than his own backyard? Tony is lucky enough to have been raised at Salt Springs reservoir since he was
2 years old. He refers to the reservoir as his backyard. What .a back yard!

Tony's funniest moment in his racing career was in 2008 when he thought he had completed his three races for his class and had changed into
street clothes only to hear his final race being announced over the loudspeaker. He ran to his ski donned his protective upper body gear and
helmet and was off. About the time he whipped around the first bouy he realized he had his jeans on, not his wet suit. By the time he made it almost
to his final lap his jeans had fallen to his ankles and his boxers were flapping in the wind. He has not repeated that embarrassing mistake again and
I highly doubt he ever will.

The scariest moment in his racing career to date happened last year. He bumped up a class in one race which allowed him a greater speed. He got
pinched between two other skiers while racing and got knocked off his ski. He subsequently was run over by the ski behind him and received a mild
shoulder injury.

Tony attends Mountain Oaks Charter School as a sophmore and is on the high school baseball team. His ambition is to join the United States Air
Force and become an aircraft mechanic. He has already taken his pre-asvab and has scored well. His parents, owners of Salt Springs Reservoir,
Debbie and Mark are very proud of their sons accomplishments and dreams.

Tony has the opportunity to once again compete at the World Finals this October in Havasu City Arizona but is in need of sponsors to be able to
achieve his goal in Water cross racing. If you would be interested in sponsoring Tony he may be reached at:
