Local Public Health and Education Agencies Holding Community Meetings on New H1N1 Flu.....Next Meeting Tuesday September 29th

Calaveras County, CA....The Calaveras County Public Health Department, Calaveras Unified School District, and Bret Harte Union High School District are sponsoring two community meetings to discuss novel H1N1 influenza. The first meeting was held at Calaveras High School last week. The second meeting is planned for....

Tuesday September 29 Bret Harte High School Theater 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM in Angels Camp.

These meetings are open to all members of the public. Dr. Dean Kelaita, Calaveras County Health Officer, and Colleen Tracy, Public Health Director, will present information on the new H1N1 flu. Information about the H1N1 vaccine, which is expected to be available next month, will be reviewed. A question and answer session will follow. Spanish translation services will be available at both meetings.

Since it was identified in April 2009, the new H1N1 flu virus (previously called swine flu) has continued to cause illness. The majority of persons recover from the H1N1 flu without problems. However, some persons are at higher risk of having serious illness, resulting in hospitalization or death. “The new H1N1 flu virus is affecting children, youth and young adults more than seniors so far,” Dr. Kelaita reported. “The community meetings are an opportunity to learn more about who is high risk and plans for the H1N1 vaccine,” Kelaita added.
