Migration from Local Public Schools~by Charity Maness
There has been a notable decline in student enrollment this school year in our local public elementary school system and an equally notable rise in the attendance of charter schools and home school programs. Is it a knee jerk reaction to over crowding and what is termed the “dumbing” down of curriculum, or is it the sign of the times?....
With Charter schools like Mountain Oaks offering Japanese, Spanish, music, and pottery to as young as 3rd graders and the California Virtual Academy offering an exceedingly wide range of courses designed to suit your child’s needs along with open communication one has to wonder if the bill sitting on Governor Schwarzenegger’s desk, removing the cap on charter school attendance, will be the beginning of the end for public schools.
