Welcome to the Country....So you’ve decided to move to the country where the miles of pasture separate our lands and our homes, but not our hearts.~by Charity Maness

What big cities attempt to accomplish and large towns try to pull together, only small towns can seem to achieve with great success. This Thanksgiving, with the coffers of the County Food Pantry achingly low, the foothill communities rallied their forces and put their heart and soul into creating a reason to be thankful for those who were in need of friendship, family, and food on Thanksgiving Day.....

Ebbett’s Pass Moose Lodge once again held a free Thanksgiving Feast for all that would like to join them, the Human Resource Center provided 650 Thanksgiving meals, and in the spirit of the season Copperopolis decided to emulate the wonderful event that the Ebbetts Pass Moose Lodge puts on every year by creating their own feast for the residents of Copper and the surrounding areas.

In Copperopolis, the schools held canned food drives, local 4-H clubs held bake sales, people in gated communities went door to door collecting almost 94 bags of non perishable food and a whopping $400 in donations, collections sites were set up at banks, home owners associations, libraries, local convenience stores donated food items and necessary condiments while those that could not help monetarily gave willingly and whole heartedly of their time. The youth of the churches made decorations to brighten the walls of the armory, where the children of after school youth groups made advertising posters and more decorations. The girl scouts carefully wrapped each set of plastic ware in a napkin tied with a seasonal bow to add to the family dining atmosphere. The Cub Scouts proudly wearing their uniforms handled, without question, any job they were given. The local market collected funds and provided food for the feast at cost. There was not a single faction or section of this proud town that did not participate in this wonderful event.

The months of planning, fund raising, and coordinating a feast for 300 reached a fever pitch on November 26th, with the day starting at 8 am for those that volunteered to cook for the masses. The community came together as one to cook, serve, pray, clean, and create a loving, warm environment for their community.

Though we seem to live miles apart and only see each other at the post office or at a diner once in awhile, we all came together as one for a cause greater than our own, that cause being our community…our family.

To those of you that gave of your time, your heart and your thoughtfulness this Thanksgiving…thank you, from the bottom of my heart, thank you.
Until next time…welcome to the country…welcome to our family.
