Many Were Honored at the Hospice Tree of Lights Ceremonies in both Amador and Calaveras~ By Tammy Beilstein
Hospice of Amador and Calaveras held their annual tree-lighting ceremonies for the Hospice Tree of Lights in both Amador and Calaveras counties this past weekend, December 6th and 7th. The first event was held on Saturday at the Calaveras Senior Center in San Andreas where approximately 70 were honored. The second service was held on Sunday at the Hospice of Amador and Calaveras Thrift Store in Jackson. Approximately 350 were honored there. Each ceremony had nearly 50 guests in attendance. ....

The services began with a violin prelude performed by Sarah Jean Tremaine. This pleased the audience as they collected their candles and shared stories of loved ones amongst themselves. Dan Riordan, Executive Director of Hospice, then welcomed the guests and explained the meaning of the lights stating that each one represents a life and will shine brightly in honor of a beloved friend or family member.
A Moment of Remembrance was held by Bereavement Coordinator Nancy Carlson followed by the candle lighting. Seasonal selections were beautifully sung by Hospice Nurse Julia Shelby and singers from Mountain Melody Women’s Chorus. As the Tree of Lights was lit, Riordan performed a very special song he wrote titled “Grace, The Special Guest”. Nary a dry eye was to be seen.
Each ceremony concluded with hot drinks and cookies inside a warm building filled with hugs, love and understanding. This is one of the most meaningful and heartwarming observances one could imagine…
