Mark Twain St. Josephs Hospital Announces Community Grant Awardees

Three local non-profit organizations received grant funding as part of the Catholic Healthcare West/Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital Community Grants Program. Grants were awarded to the Volunteer Center of Calaveras County, The Blue Mountain Coalition for Youth and Families and Mind Matters Clinic, Inc. Projects funded will benefit the communities within Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital’s service area. Funds awarded to the Volunteer Center of Calaveras County will be used to provide “safety net” transportation for life-supporting tasks, and to collaborate with other organizations for a response to public emergencies. Executive Director Marti Crane and Joy Roberts accepted the award.....

Mind Matters Clinic will support intensive, comprehensive, multi-disciplinary services to address behavioral, social, family and academic needs of underserved individuals identified with Autism, ADHD or other learning disorders. Dr. Ryan Thompson accepted the award.

Funding to the Blue Mountain Coalition for Youth and Families will use the support to promote health through free weekly meals, basic health support activities, and transit bus tickets for transportation to doctor and hospital appointments. Director Peggy Chambers accepted the award.

The awards totaled more than $19,000 and were presented at a luncheon in Stockton at St. Joseph’s Medical Center where other CHW Community Grants were awarded. The CHW Community Grants Program is part of Mark Twain St. Joseph’s community benefits initiative.

“We are both proud and humbled each year at our awards luncheon” said Robert Campana, chairman of the Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Health Care Corporation. “The work these not-for-profit agencies provide to the residents of Calaveras County adds enormous value to their lives. They need to be recognized for the great work they do”.

Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital is a not-for-profit, 48-bed general acute care hospital serving all of Calaveras County. Established in 1951 as Mark Twain District Hospital and centrally located in San Andreas, the hospital is partnered with Catholic Healthcare West to further strengthen this rural hospital to meet future community needs. The hospital is supported by 36 active physicians practicing in 24 specialties.
