Art Supply Store and Gallery to Open in Copperopolis Town Square...Grand Opening of “Galerie Copper” Features Noted Local Artists

Copperopolis, CA.... Copperopolis Town Square announces the grand opening of Town Hall Arts. The new venture includes Galerie Copper, which will showcase regional works of art and a full inventory of art supplies and classes for all skill levels. Copperopolis Supervisor Russ Thomas will initiate the opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 4 p.m., April 1st at Town Square Arts. The address is 145 Stone Street. The event will run from 4-6 p.m......

The opening celebration will give the public a chance to enjoy local art. Patrons can view the large collection of quality art supplies on hand - specially discounted for the opening. Featured local artist Dianne Stearns will demonstrate negative watercolor painting at the premier event. Stearns, along with other local artists, will conduct art class sessions at the gallery throughout the year.

“We plan to offer classes in a variety of media and at all skill levels,” says owner Larry Hoffman, a Copperopolis resident who retired locally four years ago. Hoffman undertook the business venture after seeing his wife, artist Susie Hoffman, struggle to find supplies and classes in the area. “We will also have an Artist’s Corner permanently set up and encourage local artists seeking a quiet, quaint studio setting to spend the day painting in Galerie Copper.”

Currently scheduled art classes at Galerie Copper include:

“Beginning Watercolor Basics and Landscape Painting with Dianne Stearns” as the first adult art session, offered from 9-2 p.m. Friday, April 2, and Saturday, April 3. Cost is $95.

‘Watercolor, The Next Step - Calaveras Riverscape,” on Saturday and Sunday, April 10-11. In this session, Ms. Stearns will mentor the class as a “next step” for those who took the beginning class, or for those with some watercolor experience. Cost is $95.

Local Copperopolis artist Selma Sattin will offer a pre-opening watercolor workshop for children ages 8 to 11, Saturday mornings at Town Hall Arts. “Sunflowers with Selma” will be held from 10-11:30 a.m. on March 13, 20 and 27. Cost is $35 for the three sessions. Materials will be provided.

“Digital Camera Basics,” taught by local photographer Jerry Gililland, is designed for people who would like to learn how to use their digital cameras. Jerry will take students through the basics of digital photography, and have them use this knowledge to take photographs during class. Classes are from 2-4 p.m., March 6 and 13 (Saturdays) and April 6 and 13 (Tuesdays). Fee is $10 per session

Future classes will include oil painting in May and a watercolor “Pour It On” class in June.

Space is limited for all classes. For more information and reservations call 785-2050, or send e-mail: townhallarts@caltel.com to reserve space.
