Water Bill Payment Scam - AGAIN
CCWD first alerted customers in October 2009 of a telephone scam relating to water bill payments. Sad to say, many months later this illegal activity is still going on. Some water district customers have received what appear to be automated phone calls telling them that their account is overdue, and directing them to call a specific phone number and provide their credit card number for payment. Jeffrey Meyer, CCWD Finance Director confirms that the District does not engage in automated call collections. Communications relating to amounts owed including water and sewer service bills and later reminder notices are mailed to customers. ...
Anyone receiving such a call requesting immediate payment of a water bill by credit card should note the time and date, and any phone number, if the customer's phone is set to show incoming call numbers, and report it to the Sheriff's office (754-6500).
Customers with any billing questions should contact CCWD (754-3543, select the Customer Service option on the phone menu). A variety of payment options exist, including:
Call the District between 8am and 4pm Monday to make a payment by credit card.
In-person payments are received at the District office, 423 East St. Charles Street, San Andreas, between the hours of 8am to 4pm Monday through Friday.
Payments by check or money order (not cash) may be dropped through the door slot when the office is closed, or mailed to the CCWD office, PO Box 608, San Andreas, 95249.
Automatic payment arrangements can be made via a customer's checking or credit card account - call CCWD for details.
“Soon” – within the next few months – customers will be able to make payments on-line through a secure portal. Customers will receive information in their billing statements when this payment option is available.
Customers are urged to call the District to explore the payment option that will best fit their needs: dial 754-3543 and select the Customer Service option on the telephone menu.
