49th Annual Angels Camp Fireman Fun Day…Emphasis on Fun ~ By, Charity Maness

Angels Camp, CA.....The 49th annual Angels Camp Fire Department Fireman’s Fun Day was definitely a ‘fun day’ that had something for everyone. When the families entered the park, the first sight to behold were two massive inflatable bouncy rooms packed with extremely happy laughing children and an inflatable ladder and slide duo that saw nonstop usage. But the bouncy houses were just the beginning of the fun to be had. ....

There were bingo games for all ages, snow cones, cool Angels Camp FD t-shirt sales booth, homemade cookies, music, horse shoe toss, yummy beef and chicken in a barrel (a firefighter specialty) or spaghetti dinners, and raffles, lots of raffles. Just for kids there were fire engine rides in an open engine through the town of Angels Camp with lights and sirens sounding as they neared the park, dart games and coin toss games where every child that played was a winner. Kodak moments abounded in such a setting, happy parents and happy kids alike.

Being Mark Twain’s historical Calaveras County, no family function would be complete without a frog jump! So jump frogs they did. Children lined up to learn the finer aspects of frog handling, frog whispering, and of course, frog jumping from a local frog aficionado. There were various techniques utilized to get the best jump, tickling the frog, saying “boo”, or simply staring at the green little beast wondering what to do next. But one creative teen had the brilliant idea of kissing his frog first, the crowd wasn’t sure if it was for luck or hope of the frog turning into a princess. We may never know.

The festivities wrapped up just after six with all participants happily exhausted.

Thank you Angels Camp Fire Department for such a successful and fun community day.

This year’s Fun Day was dedicated to all past members that had passed away.
