Standing Room Only For CVB Finance Committee Meeting

Angels Camp, CA...It was standing room for the Calaveras County Visitors Bureau item for the finance committee this afternoon. The topic brought out the big guns of local business and tourism to extol the virtues of keeping the Visitors Center in downtown. Greenhorn Creek, Chamber of Commerce, Branding Committee, Angels Camp Business Association, Property Owners, Tourism Guiding Lights from the past like Barden Stevenot, Supervisor Tom Tryon, and on and on. The central issue was a large enough rent increase that would have forced the Visitors Center to move...

Barden Stevenot Talking About Unintended Consequences

The final disposition of the issue will probably not be know until the next Council meeting. In many ways it was a case of how did we get here?

It is expected that the parties can reach an agreement where everyone ends up looking ok in the end. In some ways it was good exercise in setting business priorities.

Movement was made resolving the impasse and it is expected with further dialogue between the City and the CVB can be reached. It is unclear whether all of the details can be worked out before the CVB's lease expires in October. It is expected that a short term lease extension will be in place while the parties negotiate.
