Seventh Annual National Public Lands Day Event at New Melones Lake....$6 Day Use Fee to be Waived
The Bureau of Reclamation’s New Melones Lake will host an oak tree planting event at on National Public Lands Day (NPLD), Saturday, September 25, 2010, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. New Melones Lake is located northwest of Sonora, California. The public, organizations, and local businesses are invited to participate. The NPLD is the Nation’s largest annual hands-on volunteer effort to improve and enhance the Nation’s public lands. In celebration, New Melones Lake will also be waiving the $6.00 Day Use fee for all visitors....

To register as a volunteer for the tree planting, please contact Frank Blanco, at 209-536-9094, extension 200; Ranger Tracy Neal, at 209-536-9094, extension 215, or e-mail tneal@usbr.gov. On-site registration and check-in will begin at 9:30 a.m., at the New Melones Lake Visitor Center and Museum, 6850 Studhorse Flat Road, Sonora, CA 95370. After registering, the participants will drive their vehicle to assigned work locations in the Glory Hole or Tuttletown Recreation Areas. Refreshments and prizes will be provided at 1:00 p.m. at the Visitor Center and Museum.
Volunteers should dress for the summer heat, bring lunch, wear sturdy shoes; and bring work gloves if possible.
