Copper Folks Came out in Force in Support of Their Library ~ By, Charity Maness
Copperopolis, CA....On October 12th from 5 to 7 pm the Copperopolis Branch Friends of the Library hosted a spaghetti feed fund raising dinner in the town square with great success. “It seems as if half the town came out!” said one citizen happily dining on her generous serving of spaghetti. Librarian Valerie Dean along with volunteers Lu and Jane served up plateful after plateful of steaming hot spaghetti, all the while generously thanking each person for their support. Though the line was long, the servers had them moving quickly and efficiently. Supporters were served homemade spaghetti, fresh garlic bread, tossed salad, soda, beer and wine. Following the meal there was a scarecrow auction with all proceeds benefiting the library....

The Copperopolis Branch library, due to its rent status, seems to be repeatedly on the chopping block when the county budget is in crisis. Recently the County libraries came together as one and raised enough money to save them all, but with even more cuts heading down the pike, the looming thought is that once again Copper will face severe cuts or possible closure.
The dinner was hosted to raise emergency funds for the Friends of the Library in the event that closure becomes imminent. The emergency fund would hopefully help offset the cost of purchasing property or leasing for long term at a low rate.
Anyone interested in donating funds to the Friends of the library can contact the library during business hours T-Th 11-5, F 10-1, 785-0920.
