CFLC's "Christmas County Spelling Bee" Wow's The Audience!~by Patrick Works
Bret Harte Theater, Angels Camp CA...Christian Family Learning Center (CFLC), affiliated with the Foothill Community Church on Whittle Road here in Angels Camp, put on their 20th annual Christmas Pageant tonight to kick off the performance run for 2010. Not only did 110 children do an incredible amount of work to prepare for a show over six months in the making, but the entire budget for this production is a result of the fundraising work by the children themselves. Larry Smith, principal of CFLC put it this way....

“This show is really a gift from the children to the community. They did this. Adult leadership helped make it polished and professional, but this is really something the kids made possible and something they wanted to share with everyone in Calaveras County.”
Sharing the message of tonight’s performance, Bret Harte Theater filled to standing room only as Angels Camp came out in droves to see what the kids could do. The entire range of ages represented by CFLC students, from kindergarten to 8th grade performers, wowed the audience with song, dance, lessons, laughs, and an incredibly professional and entertaining Christmas extravaganza.
A medley of script elements from two decades of performances made up the show tonight, as all was pulled together many from CFLC, lead by director Judy Mattson. While the kids all kept on the message of “keeping Christ in Christmas” Ms. Mattson and choreographer Beth Gaysford saw to it that they kept every child in the children’s play.
Many CFLC alumni came to see the pageant they’d taken part in during years past. Among the cast tonight were dozens who have had the pleasure to gather years of experience on stage, and the experience showed. Diligent casting attention and direction by Ms. Mattson and Ms. Gaysford ensured that there was not only a part for every child, but a part that allowed each child to reach, to succeed, and to give a performance that made not only the families in attendance proud, but that each performer could be proud of as well.
This is a transition year for the production, as the current leadership has been working hard to see that a team finding their place for the 2011 Christmas production has all the help and guidance they need to see them into their new roles next year.
