Mark Twain St. Josephs Hospital Announces Plans for Tobacco-Free Campus
Calaveras County, CA....Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital is committed to promoting the health and well-being of our patients, employees and the community. Because of this pledge, hospital leadership will take an important step to improve the environment for healthy living by implementing a tobacco-free policy. Starting February 1, 2011, smoking and the use of any tobacco product will no longer be permitted anywhere on the campus grounds, including buildings, parking lots, and walkways. This policy will apply to everyone, including patients, visitors, medical staff members, volunteers, vendors, and employees.....
“We recognize that this initiative presents unique challenges to employees, patients and visitors who are accustomed to smoking or using tobacco products on campus” said hospital president Feliciano Jiron. “We look forward to creating a healthier environment for everyone, and appreciate your cooperation as we take the steps to make Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital a tobacco-free facility.”
Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital is a not-for-profit, 25-bed Critical Access Hospital serving all of Calaveras County. Established in 1951 as Mark Twain District Hospital and centrally located in San Andreas, the hospital is partnered with Catholic Healthcare West to further strengthen this rural hospital to meet future community needs. The hospital is supported by 34 active physicians practicing in 24 specialties.
