In Loving Memory of Rita Grace Fitzgerald Berry 1933~2011

Rita Grace Fitzgerald Berry went to be with the Lord on January 7, 2011. Born in Rutland, VT on May 30, 1933. She graduated from Mount St. Joseph's Acedemy in Rutland, VT in 1951. After graduating, she was employed with the Federal Housing Administration in Washington D.C. She made her way across the United States with her husband, Carlton Berry, and settled in Calaveras County for 40 years. She had many careers including self employment supporting the family's successful plating shop in Santa Clara, ......


book reprinter for Health Research Co, clerk for the District Attorney/ACNET Task Force, Valley Springs News, and her most cherished employment was with the Calaveras County Sheriff's Department where she retired in 2002.

She served her community in numerous capacities including Secretary for the 7th Assembly District Caucus; member of the Democratic Central Committe, member of the St. Andrews Parish and donated money for a window in the balcony of St. Thomas Aquinas parish in honor of her mother, Emma LaRose Fitzgerald. She was affiliated with the Valley Christian Center in Valley Springs. Member of the Black Bart Players and Metropolitan Players stage performance groups. She loved to make people laugh.

Rita was the sister of Barbara Preedom of Rutland, VT. and the loving mother of seven children, Jason Berry of Mokelumne Hill, Rex Berry of San Andreas, George Berry of Stockton, Lorry (Lorraine) Weatherby of Mokelumne Hill, Jennifer Berry of San Andreas, Lynne Silva of Valley Springs and Carlton Berry II and his wife Deme Berry of Elk Grove. Her grandchildren are Jason Paul Berry II, James Berry, Rex Berry II, Joshua Weatherby, Holly Weatherby, Sheree Alexander, Kathy Berry, Christa Hilinski, Carlton Berry III, Christopher Berry, and Zachary Berry. She has eleven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Many others who knew her, also called her "mom". She is preceded in death by Carlton Berry, Francis Fitzgerald, James Fitzgerald, and Robert Silva.

Viewing begins at 10:00 AM on 14 January at the San Andreas Memorial Chapel, 254 W. St Charles Street, San Andreas, CA 95249.

Rosary will be at 7:00 PM at the San Andreas Memorial Chapel. Funeral services begin at 10:00 AM, 15 January at the Valley Springs Christian Center, (Address). Graveside service will follow at the People's Cemetary at (Address). A celebration of life gathering will be held at the Senior's Center following the services.

In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: Calaveras Deputy Sheriff's Association, 891 Mountain Ranch Road, San Andreas, CA 95249.

Pall Bearer's are Jason Berry, Rex Berry Carl Berry II, Lorraine (Lorry) Weatherby, Jennifer Berry, Lynne Silva. Honorary Pall Bearers are Joshua Weatherby, Jason Berry II and James Berry.
